Cripple both its right and left arm to pressure it
|
The entity will be largely immune to all attacks until both its arms are crippled. It accumulates karma by using certain attacks. The higher the karma, the more powerful its Divine Judgement becomes. Casting Esuna can remove one level of karma.
How to Pressure and Stagger Enemies
Alexander Boss Fight Tips |
---|
|
Two of Alexander's Sanctuaries need you to first progress to Chapter 9 where you will be able to freely roam the desert south of the Gold Saucer.
Once you've unlocked that area, you'll be able to analyze all three of its Sanctuaries, making the ensuing Combat Simulator fight much more manageable.
If you don't destroy Alexander's arms, it will greatly resist all your attacks making the fight nearly impossible to win. Make sure that you aim for its arms first so that you can put pressure on Alexander and force it into stagger, making it take massive damage for attacks that it would normally heavily resist.
When Alexander's HP drops to 50%, it will activate Divine Judgement that fires a fast, sweeping laser blast that deals huge damage to the party. To deal with this, use Aerith's Arcane Ward and use Thundaga to cast it twice. This will deal massive damage especially if Alexander is staggered and will deal 50-60% damage to its HP.
With Alexander being weak to Lightning attacks and spells, it is imperative that you have Lightning Materia equipped on your party members so that you can quickly take down its arms, allowing you to deal more damage with your other attacks.
By equipping Ramuh, you will have a powerful Summon that can target Alexander's weakness on your side once you summon it. Remember to use Ramuh's skills instead of your own, unless you know that your attacks will do more damage.
Do note however that you can only get Ramuh if you have a save file from Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Episode INTERmission.
Some of Alexander's attacks, like Punitive Sphere, can leave a lingering effect on the ground that will damage you if you step on it. This can make it difficult for melee fighters to get close to Alexander if the affected area surrounds it.
Make sure to at least use a ranged attacker as your primary character so you can maximize your DPS output to quickly destroy Alexander's arms.
Target and destroy the pillars that appear once Alexander uses its Pillar of Light ability. If left unattended, the pillars will explode which will accumulate damage and Karma debuff.
Karma debuff increases the damage taken when Alexander uses its Divine Judgement ability.
Make sure that your party has enough MP and ATB charges to case Esuna whenever someone's inflicted with karma stacks. With enough karma stacks, it's possible that you could get one shot from a heavily boosted Divine Judgement even at full health.
Recommended Party Setup | |
---|---|
Yuffie | 【Main DPS / Leader】 ・Empowers her attacks with Lightning. ・Can easily dodge Alexander's attacks. Recommended Level: 30 |
Aerith | 【Support / Mage】 ・Good magic stat for Lightning attacks. ・Save ATB for healing if you're struggling. Recommended Level: 30 |
Tifa | 【Secondary DPS】 ・Becomes Main DPS once it's staggered. ・Can be out of range during the fight. Recommended Level: 30 |
Yuffie can use her Lightning Ninjutsu to hit Alexander's weakness from a safe range, plus she also gest Static Shock so that you can preserve MP while still using ATB charges to attack Alexander.
Remember though that once Alexander goes down, switch to Tifa since she will do more damage than Yuffie once it's staggered.
Aerith should primarily be your support that is healing and buffing up your party, but whenever she has nothing else to do, she can deal a lot of damage with Thunder spells.
Just make sure that you carefully manage your MP, otherwise she will no longer be able to heal or remove karma stacks on your party.
Once Alexander is staggered, Tifa becomes your greatest source of damage thanks to Rise and Fall plus Omnistrike boosting the damage it takes while staggered.
Make sure to also follow up with Limits and Synergy Abilities to deal massive damage before Alexander recovers.

Assess is used so that you can check Alexander's status during the battle. Optionally, this can be replaced with any other Materia of your liking.
Lightning and Cleansing are used because Alexander is weak to Thunder spells, and Esuna will remove any karma stacks your party may have.
Like Assess, Healing can be replaced with any other Materia you wish, but it's always nice to have a backup healer in case of emergencies.
Finally, Titan is the chosen Summon since it is the only one you get besides Phoenix without any DLC or bonuses. If you like, you could change this with any other Summon of your choosing.

Healing + Auto-Cast is very useful so that you don't have to manually swap to Aerith every time someone needs to be healed. If you don't mind doing it yourself, then you can replace Auto-Cast with any other Materia of your liking.
Lightning and Cleansing are important for this fight because Alexander is weak to Thunder spells and because Esuna can remove karma stacks, while Fortification is great for casting Protect and Shell on your party members.
HP and MP Up are flexible Materia slots, but considering that Aerith is pretty squishy and she casts a lot, boosting her HP and MP aren't bad options.
Finally, Phoenix is used because it gives the highest Magic bonus out of all of the Summons currently available as soon as you can challenge Alexander.

Lightning and Cleansing are important as usual since Alexander is weak to Thunder spells and Esuna removes karma stacks, while Chakra is a great way to heal up without needing to spend MP.
Also, HP Up again is a flexible materia slot, but it is always nice to have more HP to make you bulkier.
Finally, Ramuh is used because it is the best counter to Alexander while also giving Tifa a balanced boost to her Attack and Magic stats. If you don't have Ramuh, then you can use any other summon that give a bonus to Attack.

A sacred summon recreated in virtual reality. This mechanical giant is the manifestation of humanity's judgement, bestowing either salvation or condemnation upon those who survive its trial. The entity will be largely immune to all attacks until both its arms are crippled. It accumulates karma by using certain attacks. The higher the karma, the more powerful its Divine Judgement becomes. Casting Esuna can remove one level of karma. |
Once you've reached the Corel region, you will be able to challenge Alexander in the Combat Simulator.
Remember that you can also analyze Alexander Sanctuaries to unlock lower difficulty levels in the Combat Simulator, making the fight much more manageable.
