The Voice Behind the Mask Walkthrough

The Voice Behind the Mask is an Exploration quest in Throne and Liberty (TL). Learn how to solve the tile puzzle, survive the sandstorm, defeat the Ancient Crystal Scorpion, and what the rewards are for quest completion!

Mysterious Mask Location

Located on the Top of the Highest Arch

Because the Sandworm Lair region has numerous levels, the Mysterious Mask may be a bit tricky to find, especially because of its small size and the lack of description in the quest.

Climb up the highest arch in the designated quest area and you will be able to find it lying there. Interact with it to start the quest.

Guiding Light Route

The Route Spirals Downward

Starting at the top of the arch from where you found the Mysterious Mask, the Guiding Light spheres will lead you downward in a spiral motion, mostly counter-clockwise up until the seventh sphere. Be mindful of the sixth sphere, as that one is right underneath the first one.

Follow the Guiding Light to reach the rift. Enter the rift to start the first trial.

How to Solve Tile Puzzle

Remember the Solution Before Stepping on the Tiles

The tile puzzle will show the solution at the start and then disappear the moment you step on the first tile. Make sure to step on the correct tiles and not fall off, or else you will have to do the whole puzzle from the start.

How to Survive the Sandstorm

Keep Running and Stick to the Border

This trial requires you to survive an onslaught of tornadoes for thirty seconds. The tornadoes track your character's last location and head to it in a straight line. If they catch you, you will have to repeat the whole thing over again. It starts out manageable enough, but they quickly pick up speed and multiply in numbers.

The easiest way to avoid the tornadoes is to stick to the edges of the border and run in one direction to keep the trajectories of the tornadoes consistent.

How to Beat Ancient Crystal Scorpion

Keep Mobile While Attacking

The last trial has you battling Ancient Crystal Scorpion. This Elite enemy is very manageable as long as you do not stay in one place while attacking. Ranged users have the advantage of keeping distance as Ancient Crystal Scorpion is most dangerous upclose. Melee users will have to circle around it while dodging its attacks.

Note: Aside from Ancient Crystal Scorpion, you will also have to battle against Desert Exploding Scarabs. These enemies explode once they get near to you and deal sizeable damage. This makes it all the more-important to keep moving during this battle.

Dodge Away From Sandstorm Attack

Besides watching out for Ancient Crystal Scorpion's regular and Fury attacks, you have to evade its sandstorm attack, that reduces your movement speed while dealing tick damage. Getting stuck in it will also leave you vulnerable to Desert Exploding Scarabs. Dodge roll out of the area-of-effect to stay safe during combat.

After defeating Ancient Crystal Scorpion, all that is left is to read the Ancient Writing and speak with Dantalux Guardian's Pledge to finish the quest.
