| Squint asked me to retrieve a particular artifact. He claims it could help him escape from the Lesser Zone, even with the Ward's quarantine in place. I guess I'll get it for him, and then we'll see where things stand. | |
This side mission is only available if you don't attack or kill Squint in A Needle in a Haystack. If you killed Squint already, you will be locked from completing this side mission.

The main reward of this mission is the Ward Sensor, a necessary item for A Needle in a Haystack. Choosing to skill Squint at the end of the quest, will mean you can keep the Mold Artifact afterwards.

Find the entrance to the cave
Inside the Gray House
The entrance to the cave can be found in the gray house just northwest of the Old Mill where you accept the mission. Head down the cave opening to unlock the next objective.
Get the artifact for Squint
Be alert for Bloodsuckers
Bloodsuckers are mutants who have the ability to be invisible. While they do turn invisible, they make a roaring sound and announce their presence just as they are about to strike. Watch the screen close as there is a distortion of the light just as they are about to pounce.
Follow The Marker on Your Compass
The fastest way to find the artifact is to keep the quest marker at the center of your compass. Once you reach the area with green fumes, bring out your detector. Wait for beeps from your monitor to determine if an Anomaly is nearby, additionally check for flashes as it indicates the presence of a nearby artifact.
Leave the cave
Once have the artifact, follow the marker on the compass to leave the cave. Or simply put, retrace your steps.
Return to Squint at the Mill
When you return to Squint, you are given the option of giving the Mold Artifact to him to end the mission, or to keep the artifact and kill him. Either action will end the mission, the only difference is whether you leave with the Mold Artifact or not.
Give the Artifact
You give up the Mold Artifact and in return, Squint gives you the Ward Sensor, a key item you need for A Needle in a Haystack.
Keep the Artifact
You decide to keep the Mold Artifact and attack Squint. You can still loot the Ward Sensor after you kill Squint, but you also leave with the Mold Artifact that you can either use or sell.
