Veles Detector is the Best
Naturally, the Veles Detector (the final one you unlock) is the best detector in the game because it shows you exactly where an artifact is relative to your position. You no longer have to guess if you're near or not since the radar pings shown via the Veles' screen will mark the exact location of the artifact using a red dot.
On top of its useful artifact marker, the Veles Detector also shows you the positions of each anomaly within an anomalous field. This means areas with gravity anomalies and whirligigs that are usually hard to see become easier to navigate when using this detector.
To get a free Veles Detector, progress the main story missions until you reach In Search of Past Glory. Take the blueprint for the psi-radiation suppressor back to Dr. Dvupalov to get a free Veles Detector for your troubles.
How to Get Veles Detector and Effects
Bear Detector is a Close Second
A close second would have to be the Bear Detector due to how easy it is to use. With a radial display that shows you the direction of the artifact while also indicating how close you are to it, this detector is a definite upgrade from both the Hilka and the Echo detectors.
To top it all off, the mission that rewards you with a free Bear Detector (A Sign of Hope) happens relatively early in the game and is very easy to complete. If you haven't already, make sure to complete this mission while you still don't have access to the Veles.
