STALKER 2 Heart of Chornobyl

Death Penalty: What Happens When You Die?

You will be returned to your last save if Skif dies in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Learn what happens when you die in the game and death penalties in this guide!

What Happens When You Die?

Respawn from a Previous Save

Game Over screen

The Game Over screen will appear when Skif's HP drops to 0. From here, you can select whether to respawn from a previous save or exit the game.

Load Last Save - Quickload from your most recent manual save or autosave.
Load Saved Game - Freely choose one of the previous manual saves and autosaves to respawn from.
Exit to Main Menu - Go back to the title screen.
Quit - Close the game.

Death Counter Goes Up

There is also a death counter, located below the "Another one lost to the Zone." text, that goes up whenever Skif dies. There is no penalty for dying and doing multiple retries other than the reminder of how many times you have already done that.

Lose All Your Unsaved Progress

You will lose all the progress you've made including quest objectives completed and items collected if Skif dies. Make it a habit to save manually while playing as the game's autosave doesn't kick in that often, risking the loss of hours of gameplay.
