Wild Island is the third major region you explore during the main story of STALKER 2. It will be bordered by the Cement Factory to the north, Zaton to the southeast, Garbage to the northwest, and the Lesser Zone to the southwest.
In order to gain access to Shelter (the regional base), you will need the Ward Badge that you get from Col. Korshunov during the main mission, Back to Slag Heap. If you do not have the Ward Badge, you'll have to complete the side mission, A Heavy Burden, before you can access both the Shelter and Wild Island.

Not sure if anyone ever gonna read this, but I found a "Slug" (Chemical artifact) in Sand Mine, which is a Gravitational anamoly. It was not a regular artifact though, as it was in the hands of a dead stalker!
