Guides are essentially your fast travel points in the Zone. Once you have logged a base after you enter it, you can use the Guide NPCs to teleport you to another already unlocked area for a price.

Traders are merchants of the Zone. Some are allied to certain factions, while some live as free folk just trying to earn their keep and survive. By allying to certain factions, you can even get discounts and maybe even special offers.
