Prypiat is a late game region that is gated by main story progress. You'll only be able to go to Prypiat once you've reached the main mission, The Boundary. During the mission, you'll have to look for a guide named Spirit who'll then tell you about the existence of the M-Scanner he uses to pass through to Prypiat.
Obtain the M-Scanner during the tail-end of the mission to start unlocking the way to both the Jupiter and Prypiat regions.
Once you have the M-Scanner, you'll have two options when deciding how to cross over to both the Prypiat and Jupiter regions:
1 | Give the M-Scanner to Nor in exchange for a Prypiat permit. (Best Option) |
---|---|
2 | Get through the tunnel with the help of the M-Scanner. |
The easiest method is to simply give the M-Scanner to Dmytro Nor in Yaniv Station. Not only does he pay you for the Scanner, you also get free reign to use the Yaniv base door when passing through to Jupiter from the base (important if you plan to explore Jupiter since Yaniv is the nearest Base in the region).
Using the M-Scanner in the tunnel is not optimal since the tunnel becomes your only way to Prypiat from Yaniv. This means running to the Torando anomaly, skirting around it, and crouch walking through the tunnel each time you want to re-enter Juptier from the Yaniv Station base.
Despite its close proximity, rest assured that you won't need the M-Scanner to solve the Tornado Anomaly puzzle in Yaniv. It is an entirely separate puzzle which means you won't be locked out of getting the powerful Weird Bolt artifact even if you exchange the M-Scanner for a Prypiat permit.
If you want to get paid to get into Prypiat, make sure to exchange the M-Scanner for a Prypiat permit. Talk to the NPC Dmytro Nor in the Yaniv Station base and give him the M-Scanner to get the Prypiat Permit and Coupons for the scanner. Depending on your difficulty, you will get:
Difficulty | Coupon Reward |
---|---|
Rookie | 32,391 Coupons |
Stalker | 24,000 Coupons |
Veteran | 18,000 Coupons |
Unfortunately, the only reward waiting for you if you take the Tunnel Route is a free Dnipro Assault Rifle. You'll find it flanked by two corpses as you make your through to Jupiter.
Note: Going to the tunnel exit and trying to secure the Dnipro by backtracking won't work since the electro anomalies in this tunnel are special. They will insta-kill you if you so much as enter the tunnel without having used the M-Scanner beforehand.
If you're dead-set on using the M-Scanner to enter Jupiter, then the first step is to find the tunnel entrance next to the Tornado Anomaly west of Yaniv Station. Make your way to the abandoned trainyard and loop around it to bypass the Tornado. You'll find the tunnel at the northeast side of the trainyard.
Upon entering the tunnel, you'll see a glowing semi-circle on the ground. Interact with it to set up the M-Scanner. Similar to how you used the scanner in There and Back Again, wait for it to finish charging and clearing the tunnel of electro anomalies before proceeding.
Once the way is clear, simply crouch walk your way to Jupiter. There will be a few electro anomalies left over, but you can just throw bolts at them in order to pass through safely. Make sure to also pick up the Dnipro inside the tunnel for a good late game assault rifle.
