Being similar to games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Elden Ring will not have difficulty settings that can be selected. This means all players face the same level of difficulty, and will have a similar experience against the enemies encountered in The Lands Between.

Elden Ring's director Hidetaka Miyazaki shed some light on the approach to difficulty in Elden Ring. More than previous games FromSoft games, Elden Ring will emphasize giving players options to overcome challenging bosses and dungeons. Facing impossible odds no longer needs to be one dimensional thanks to new stealth, multiplayer, and build mechanics in Elden Ring.

Use Stealth
Elden Ring will feature stealth mechanics that will allow players to sneak past groups of enemies undetected. Instead of rushing in to a mob that is waiting to ambush you, sneak by them or pick them off one by one.

Level up to increase your stats including damage, health, and defenses. Some areas may prove too difficult to overcome at your current level, so try returning after leveling up several times.

Use Ashes of War to equip new stats and skills to various weapons. Do you prefer a certain type of weapon but don't like the skill it comes with? Try equipping an Ash of War that is better suited to your play style!
Explore the World
Since Elden Ring features an open world, players can collect powerful equipment and spells before returning to a boss that gave them trouble. Places like Legacy Dungeons may be dangerous, but they also provide you with the best weapons and equipment available.
Additionally, certain bosses are entirely skippable, allowing you to save more time when completing certain sections. The Lands Between is a dangerous place, but it rewards players who try and explore each destination.
