Sid Meier's Civilization VII Gameplay
Sid Meier's Civilization VII retains its core turn-based strategy gameplay, set on a hexagonal world grid. Players manage their civilizations in meticulous detail, taking turns to oversee tasks such as city production, unit movement, trade management, diplomatic negotiations with Independent Powers, and engaging in battles. This detailed system of resource management allows for various avenues for victory while competing against AI or human opponents.
Every leader and civilization offers unique bonuses that enhance resource management, production, gold generation, or combat effectiveness, tailored to specific scenarios. Some leaders feature dynamic personas that alter their playstyles, while others grant passive abilities, unique units, infrastructure, or specialized civilian units, creating variance between each playthrough.
In a groundbreaking shift for the seris, Civilization VII introduces the ability for players to control more than one civilization in a single playthrough. As the game progresses through three new ages—Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern—players adapt their strategies by adopting new civilizations and their distinct bonuses. Additional innovations include navigable rivers, refined terrain bonuses, revamped World Wonder construction mechanics, and a roster of both new and returning leaders.
Finally, there's the game's Victories or win conditions, which differ depending on what Legacy Path they choose to take. Unlike Civilization VI's Ages and Eras point system, this grants players more flexibility as they go through the ages, but still rewards specialization and strategy towards a singular goal.
