Lets You Use Heavy Weapons

Heavy weapons usually have a high strength scaling that will be effectively used by high strength characters. While you may still use a low strength character to wield a heavy weapon, your damage output will be low and ineffective.

Lets You Break Enemy Poise Quicker

Heavy weapons deal more poise damage by default. Since heavy weapons usually scale with strength, strength indirectly lets you break enemy poise quicker.

Strength boosts the damage output of weapons that scale with strength. These include Great Hammers, Colossal Swords, and Colossal Weapons, among all others.
