Above listings under "Runes' Worth" are sample Rune drop amounts from bosses.

The above easiset clears for the early game (Day 1) in an expedition are the Campsites followed by other Points of Interests (POIs) such as the Ruins. These two contain the most source of runes due to multiple bosses (multiply Rune's Worth by the number of bosses) in addition to the volume of mobs in the area.

For a recommended farming rune farming route, it's best to reference the above table as a priority list and compare it with your planned route in the expedition (for example, Campsites first if they are nearest, then prioitize Mines last). Consider also the size of the Night's Tide when planning your route.

If you get a Stonesword Key, Evergaols can be included in in the route if you and your team are capable in early game. They're best done during Day 2, however, as fast clears in-between POIs.

What to Do First on Days 1 and 2

Take on Castles and Field Bosses on Day 2

The Castle and Field Bosses are difficult, so only take them on when you're of a higher level (we recommend Level 9+) with better equipment in Day 2.

The Castle at the center of the map is a great place to farm Runes, with each regular Crucible Knight at the Castle giving 18,000+ Runes when defeated.

Field Bosses may take a while to complete, so it's worth dealing a few hits as a squad to see if you think it'll take a long time to fully kill the boss.

Use Rune Boosting Methods and Effects

Type Rune-Boosters
Items and Relics Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot
Gold Scarab (+10%)
・Relics with 'Increased rune acquisition' (+3.5%)
・Relics with 'Critical Hits Earn Runes'
Raid Events Sentient Pest Raid Event (Integration of Intelligence)
Symbol of Avarice from the 'Take runes' Libra Deals of the Demon Merchant (+20%)
Dormant Powers ・10% more runes from defeated enemies.

The amount of runes you earn can be increased further by taking advantage of the options above. Certain items, such as the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot, will temporarily boost the amount of runes you earn. Others will keep your runes boosted while equipped (Talismans) or will last for the whole duration of the expedition (Dormant Power).

How to Get Runes

Defeat Enemies

Get Runes from Mobs.PNG

Defeating enemies is the main method of obtaining runes. All enemies will drop a certain amount of runes upon being slain. For earning large amounts of runes at a time, POIs like Campsites and Forts are great since they have a lot of enemy mobs present.

Defeat Bosses

Fighting the Fell Omen

Bosses are another direct source for obtaining a lot of runes and can be found throughout Limveld. They are much more difficult to take down but will reward the players with a huge sum of runes upon emerging victorious.

Runes earned from bosses can vary depending on where you fight them. For example, a Leonin Misbegotten fought at a Campsite will yield lesser runes than one fought at the basement of a Castle.

Reclaim Lost Runes

Drops All Your Runes

If you fall in battle, you incur the death penalty of losing 1 level and all of your held runes. You will have a chance to reclaim runes in this case, provided you claim the lost runes at your last death spot or you defeat the enemy possessing them.

If you die again just before retrieving your runes, those runes will be permanently lost. Fortunately, you will not lose any further levels than the one you had last. For example, if you die at Level 8, drop to Level 7, then die again, your level will stay at 7 and not drop further into 6.

The only way you can permanently devolve into Level 1 is by taking in all locust swarm explosions during the Sentient Pest Raid Event, where each explosion steals your runes and causes you to drop a level. To reclaim all stolen runes and levels, you must defeat the Sentient Pest in this raid.

How to Recover and Find Dropped Runes

Defeat Enemies That Steal Your Runes

An additional mechanic related to dropped runes is that enemies can take your dropped runes. These enemies will often be found near the spot you have died on, will have a yellow glow, and will grant you the runes you lost upon defeating them.

You can check if your runes are taken by an enemy by checking the map. It will show that the rune icon is moving, indicating that a mob is in possession of it.

How to Use Runes

Used to Level Up Your Character

The primary usage of runes is to level up your character. Head to the nearest Site of Grace, then use the required runes to level up.

How to Level Up Fast

Purchase Items From Merchants

Map Icon Brief Explanation
Merchant Merchants Sells items and has a forge nearby to upgrade equipment with Smithing Stones.

A secondary method of use for runes is by using them to buy wares from Merchants. Merchants are found in certain locations throughout Limveld. Interact with the merchants to purchase some of their wares in exchange for runes.

Pay Demon Merchant (Libra) in a Raid Event

Raid Merchant Appearance

Runes are also used to pay (35,000 runes) at the Demon Merchant (Libra) to cure the HP curse. This is a Raid Event and the merchant's location is random, but its exact location can be checked by spotting a red area on the map.
