Recommended Level for Knight Artorias

Recommended Level Level 12

We recommend fighting Knight Artorias at Level 12 for a standard difficulty experience. If you wish for a greater challenge, you may fight this boss at lower levels.

Focus on Blocking Instead of Dodging the Boss's Attacks

Artorias Shield

During the first phase of the fight, Knight Artorias moves slowly but is still agile with his sword attacks. You’re better off blocking his attacks with a shield (preferably a Greatshield) rather than dodging. Have a Guardian or Raider on the squad to tank the boss’s attacks. Only back away when he performs a ground slam, which is telegraphed when he does a frontflip.

Knight Artorias also performs a leap attack. When you see him crouch, be ready to dodge as he will drive his sword toward you. You can then land a few hits after dodging.

Use Ironeye or Recluse for Ranged Attacks

Artorias Ranged

With melee users drawing Knight Artorias’ aggro, ranged players like Ironeye and Recluse can safely shoot from a distance and chip away the boss' HP. Just keep a moderate distance from the boss, especially during Phase 2, as he can suddenly dash toward you and attack you.

The Boss Gets More Aggressive in Phase 2

Artorias Second Phase Dark Projectiles

Once you’ve removed a third of Knight Artorias’ HP, you will now enter the second phase of the fight. The boss will charge Abyss and unleash an explosion, sending multiple projectiles and dimming the arena. The projectiles are slow enough to evade, so just run as far as you can to shake them off.

Knight Artorias will keep mostly the same moveset but will move faster and more aggressively, such as performing his leap attack twice in a row. Melee users can stick to the same strategy, but ranged players should now be on their toes to avoid getting caught off guard by the boss’s attacks.

Abyss Grants a Buff and Debuff

Knight Artorias Abyss

During Phase 2, Knight Artorias begins leaving Abyss on the arena floor, a black sludge that applies a buff that Raises Attack Power and a debuff that Lowers Damage Negation upon contact. Depending on your playstyle, getting the Abyss effect is high risk, high reward. You can either avoid him and wait for the debuff to fade, or play more aggressively while your attacks are empowered.

Knight Artorias can also inflict Abyss with his attacks whenever his sword is imbued with dark energy, so you may end up getting the effect one way or another.
