The Wylder has a preference for Greatswords, but is also great at wielding most weapons that scale with Strength and Dexterity such as Halberds and Axes.
Prioritize obtaining weapons with elements that are effective against the Nightlord you're going up against.
| Best Passives for Offense | |

| Improved Attack Power When Two-Handing | Improved Affinity Attack Power |
| Alternative Offense Option | |
| Improved Stance-Breaking when Two-Handing | |
| Best Passives for Defense | |
| Successive Attacks Negate Damage | Taking Damage Boosts Damage Negation |
For offensive weapon passives, take Improved Attack Power depending on your preference of two-handing weapons or not.
For defense, look for damage negation through successive attacks or damage negation.
Weapon passives apply as long as the weapon is in your inventory, even if you're not actively using it. Exceptions to this rule are weapons that have a hand icon on their passives. These weapons must be equipped for the passives to take effect.
Be sure to fill your inventory with useful passives, even from random weapons you won't use, if the effect suits the build so you don't waste an inventory slot.

For utility, Ultimate Art Gauge, Improved Critical Hits, Improved Stance-Breaking, and Endurance are also good choices for a combat-oriented build.

| How to Play Wylder |
|---|
|
|

The Wylder is proficient with the Greatsword, but he can also effectively wield a variety of weapons thanks to his stats leaning towards Strength and Dexterity.
At the start of every expedition, assess whether your team needs a tanky frontliner or a damage dealer. The Wylder is versatile enough to fulfill either role to maximize the chance of a successful run.
As a frontliner, you should ideally wield a shield and focus on survivability. Otherwise, look for weapons that are effective against the Nightlord you're up against.
The Wylder has excellent mobility thanks to his Claw Shot, allowing him to close the gap quickly between enemies, or even avoid attacks.
Against smaller enemies, the Claw Shot can interrupt attacks and pull them toward you. When used against bosses, it instead pulls you toward them.
Rather than sprinting after enemies, use the Claw Shot to quickly bridge the distance as it doesn't consume stamina!
You can cover a lot of ground quickly by firing your Claw Shot at the ground and then jumping at the end of the animation. It's much faster than simply surge sprinting and could prove useful in emergencies!
True to the Wylder's versatile theme, Onslaught Stake has various uses in a run. It deals a significant amount of burst damage, has high probability of staggering enemies, and can even be used to revive allies (up to two bars) in an emergency.
It also has a generous amount of i-frames, allowing you to pull it off without safely.

Wylder's Sixth Sense passive refreshes whenever you touch a Site of Grace, meaning it can be used multiple times in one run. Take advantage of the passive by being more aggressive than usual to take down bosses faster.
Always keep an eye out on the passive indicator below your stamina bar to avoid misplays!

Sixth Sense - Cheat death a single time. |
Wylder's Passive Ability, Sixth Sense, allows you to cheat death a single time by automatically dodging an attack that deals fatal damage to you. Once this ability activates, you will need to rest at a Site of Grace to use it again.
Claw Shot - Launch grappling claw to rope foes in or move swiftly by retracting. |
Wylder's Character Skill, Claw Shot, lets you launch a grappling claw to pull small enemies towards you, or pull yourself toward a larger enemy. This attack can disrupt enemy attacks, and can be used to quickly relocate and reposition.
You can also use the Claw Shot to quickly dash toward a direction, allowing you to cover a lot of ground in an instant. This is great for repositioning during combat or for general exploration.
Onslaught Stake - Powerful single attack that launches an iron stake with a great explosion. |
Wylder's Ultimate Art, Onslaught Stake, lets you launch an iron stake which will cause an explosion in front of you. This attack can be used immediately, or charged to cause a bigger explosion.
Wylder's Greatsword
|
Minimum Level: 1 Attack Scaling: STR/DEX Damage Type: Physical |
|---|
Wylder's Greatsword is a strong weapon that can mow down common enemies in a few swings. It can also easily break a shielded enemy's stance, allowing your allies to finish them off.
Its Stamp (Upward Cut) weapon skill renders you uninterruptible to attacks, allowing you to trade blows with enemies and launching them upwards.
Wylder's Small Shield
|
Minimum Level: 1 Attack Scaling: STR/DEX Damage Type: Physical |
|---|
Wylder's Small Shield is ideal for parrying enemy attacks with its Buckler Parry weapon skill. If you intend to block attacks, equip a Medium or Greatshield instead.
