What Does Retaliate Do?

Absorb Attacks to Deal Damage Back

When Retaliate is activated, Raider stomps the ground, dealing damage and staggering regular enemies. He then follows up with a powerful punch that inflicts Strike damage, knocks down smaller enemies, and deals significant poise damage.

With the Fighter's Resolve passive, throughout the entire Retaliate animation, Raider takes greatly reduced damage and cannot be knocked down. He also becomes temporarily unkillable, since if he takes lethal damage during the animation, he will survive with 1 HP.

Retaliate Can Be Charged Up By Taking Enough Damage

As Raider, taking enough damage causes white smoke to emit from your body. This visual cue indicates that Retaliate is fully charged, having a longer animation to absorb incoming attacks and unleashing a far more devastating retaliation.

The charged version deals increased damage, significantly more poise damage, and has a wider area-of-effect in front of Raider. It is especially effective against large bosses and can even interrupt powerful attacks, such as Augur’s sleep attack.

How to Get:
Complete Raider's Chapter 2 Remembrance Quest

The only guaranteed Relic that provides a buff when using Retaliate is the Torn Braided Cord. Taking damage while in the animation boosts your damage output by increasing both attack power and stamina, while also granting a small bonus to Strength. You get this by completing Chapter 2 of Raider's Remembrances.

However, this same effect can be found on random relics, although this comes quite rare when trying to farm for Relics.

Keep in mind that the Retaliate punch does Strike damage, which deals more damage to enemies like Crystalians, while it is less effective against heavily armored enemies like the Ancient Dragon and Crucible Knights.

These damage values were tested on the dummies in the Sparring Grounds of the Roundtable Hold, and are calculated with both the stomp and punch landing.

Retaliate Cooldown

12 Seconds

Right after activation, Retaliate will be ready to use again after a 12-second cooldown. This can be reduced by using Relics or Dormant Powers that have the Character Skill Cooldown Reduction passive effect.
