We recommend fighting Flying Dragon of the Hills at Level 9 for a standard difficulty experience, usually during Day 2. Fighting the Dragon at a lower level on Day 1 can take too much time, especially with how much the Dragon flies around.
If you wish for a greater challenge, you may fight this boss at lower levels.
Whenever the Dragon flies up, be ready to sprint or dodge. If it flies overhead while breathing fire, quickly move sideways to avoid the flames. If it does not breathe fire right after flying up, it is charging a powerful diving attack instead, so time your dodge carefully to avoid taking damage.
How to Dash and Use Surge Sprint
After flying, the Dragon usually lands at a distance and breathes fire in your direction. Run toward it diagonally to evade the flames and close the gap, giving you a chance to land some hits up close.
When you're within striking range, the Dragon will use various melee attacks based on your position relative to it. Each attack is heavily telegraphed, so watch its body and limbs closely.
If you're at its side, the Dragon will tilt its head and bite. Near its feet, it may raise a leg to stomp you. From behind, it can prepare a sweeping tail swipe. All of these attacks have clear tells and can be avoided with a well-timed dodge, making full use of your dodge’s invincibility frames.
After dodging successfully, punish it with one or two hits before waiting for its next move.
