How to Unlock the Rotted Woods

Unlocks After Defeating Five Different Nightlords

Rotted Woods Unlock

Defeating five different Nightlords unlocks the third Shifting Earth event which is the Rotted Woods.

Shifting Earth events have a chance of triggering after the end of every expedition, whether you defeat a Nightlord or a regular third day boss.

There are four Shifting Earth events in total: The Crater, The Mountaintop, The Rotted Woods, and finally, Noklateo, the Shrouded City.

Embark on Expeditions With the Rotted Woods Shifting Event

Rotted Woods Map 1

If you embark on an expedition when the Rotted Woods has appeared, the southeast side of the map will change. You can start the mission on the first day if you plan on avoiding the bosses. It is advised to enter the Rotted Woods on the second day after leveling your character if you intend to battle the bosses there.

Rotted Woods Rewards

Acquire the Favor of the Rotted Woods at the Scarlet Rot Tree

Dormant Power Effects
Favor of the Rotted Woods Nullifies scarlet rot and increases max HP.
Attacks after receiving damage partially recover HP.

Once you reach the Scarlet Rot tree after looking at the treasure map, you can acquire the Favor of the Rotted Woods Dormant Power. This buff nullifies the effects of the Scarlet Rot status effect, increases your max HP, and allows your Nightfarer to recover HP for each attack after receiving damage.

Go to the Fort

Rotted Woods Map 3

The first thing you need to do is to locate the Fort on your map, and head straight there. There will be a field boss in the area; feel free to defeat it along the way.

Go to the Top of the Fort and Find the Treasure Map

Rotted Woods Treasure Map

Once you reach the Fort, go to the top floor and look for a treasure map inside a room. Only one member needs to interact with the map, so if you're confident, your other teammates can roam the area while you look at the map.

Head to the Scarlet Rot Tree

Rotted Woods Map 4.png

Upon interacting with the treasure map, the location of the Scarlet Rot tree will be marked on your map. The location is random with each playthrough, so you do not have to go to a specific location each time.

Climb the Scarlet Rot Tree

Scarlet Rot Tree

Once you reach the Scarlet Rot tree, climb it and acquire the Favor of the Rotted Woods Dormant Power. Each party member needs to collect this, unlike the treasure map where only one character was required. You will also receive the Rotted Woods trophy if you haven't already achieved it.

After acquiring the Favor of the Rotted Woods, we suggest roaming the area and battling the field bosses to acquire loot.

Optional Rotted Woods Field Bosses

Rotted Woods Map 2

Field Bosses Confirmed in the Rotted Woods
・Bell Bearing Hunter
・Black Blade Kindred
・Draconic Tree Sentinel
・Erdtree Avatar
・Lordsworn Captain
・Royal Carian Knight
・Tree Sentinel

The field bosses in the Rotted Woods spawn at random and are all optional, thus they can be avoided.

If you intend to battle the bosses, we recommend acquiring the Favor of the Rotted Woods Dormant Power first in order to avoid the passive Scarlet Rot damage from the Rotted Woods area.
