How to Get Crossbows
Looted from Bow Racks in Encampments
Crossbows can be looted from bow racks scattered around Main Encampment POIs. These same racks can also have a chance to spawn in the small, unmarked enemy encampments that you drop at when first starting an expedition.
Press Y (Xbox), Triangle (PS5), or V (PC) to Find Bow Racks on the Map

To easily find POIs with Bow Racks, open your map and press Y (Xbox), Triangle (PS5), or V (PC) to switch over to the detailed map view. In this mode, your map will show you which POIs will net you crossbows, staves, sacred seals, flasks, and map clues.
Can be Looted from Ruined Towers
The unmarked, ruined towers that dot the landscape of Limveld will usually have one bow rack that you can loot for a potential crossbow, greatbow, bow, or ballista.
If you're playing as Ironeye, these are great mini detours you can take if you want a quick upgrade from your starting weapon (especially since these are usually found near starting spawn locations).
What are Crossbows?
Ranged Weapons that Prioritize Precision and Lack Scaling
Crossbows have higher accuracy than Bows and Greatbows, though they require reloading after each shot. This makes them best suited for Nightfarers who prefer an easy to use ranged secondary weapon, as they can switch to their primary weapon if there is insufficient time to reload.
Crossbows also have a stable damage output, mostly due to their lack of scaling with stats.
In Nightreign, weapons don't have stat requirements. Unlike in the original game, all Nightfarers will be able to use all weapons found during a match.
Best for Quick and Precise Shots
Crossbows have a slower rate of fire compared to Bows and Greatbows due to requiring a reload after each shot, though the shots they do fire are quick and precise. To maximize Crossbows, you'll need to fire accurately while either having enough distance to reload safely, or switching to a different weapon immediately after firing.
