Merchants can be found near Forts, inside Campsites, and in Townships throughout Limveld. They sell useful items that help you become stronger and increase your survivability during fights. Where there are merchants, there are also forges. These are used to upgrade the stats and rarity of your equipment using Smithing Stones.
Merchants are Usually Found in Campsites or Outside Forts
The merchant and the forge can be located inside Campsites, but they are found outside Forts. Find bonfires in these areas to locate the merchant.

Merchants in Townships Offer More Items

Townships are POIs that house merchants selling better items. Their wares include Smithing Stone 2 for upgrading your weapons to rare, a Stonesword Key, and Talismans. Be sure to visit these on your runs!
What to Buy from Merchants?

Talismans from Township Merchants
Talismans are the best items you can purchase from merchants since most of the one's sold by Merchants are good (Erdtree's Favor for +HP and Stamina or Dragoncrest Shield for +Phyiscal Damage Negation).
However, do note that only Township Merchants sell Talismans, so it may be worth the trip to this POI in order to get at least one of them for your run.
Buy Consumable Items
 Crimsonspill Crystal Tear

 Uplifting Aromatic
|
If you have a lot of Runes to spare, buy consumable items like the Uplifting Aromatic and the Crimsonspill Crystal Tear, which are useful in boss fights.
These consumables become extremely useful when you get the relic effect where the consumable effects are shared to nearby allies.
Recommended Items to Buy in the Spirit Shelter

Effect: Generates warmth where activated, continuously restoring the HP of nearby allies. Max No. Per Slot: 2 |
Once you're in the Spirit Shelter, the area before you fight the main boss, use up all of your Runes through leveling up and by buying items from the merchant that will help you during the fight.
Buy Smithing Stones to Strengthen Weapons

Prioritize buying Smithing Stones to upgrade your weapons and make them stronger. Smithing Stone 1 is available to buy from all merchants for 6500, while Smithing Stone 2 is only available from merchants inside Townships for 18000.
Wending Grace for Cheating Death
Wending Grace is a consumable that lets you automatically revive after getting downed, like the passive skill of the Wylder. This is especially useful when fighting Nightlords since it grants you an additional safety net from failure.
Regular Merchants sell Wending Graces if you're playing in Singpleplayer mode. Given it's 10000 Rune price tag, its best to buy this during Day 2 since you'll want Day 1 runes going to levels first.
