The Night's Tide refers to the circular border surrounding Limveld that shrinks as time passes. This can be seen in the overworld as an encroaching area with blue flames, and can be seen on the map as the area outside of the circle.
While inside the Night's Tide, Nightfarers will take gradual damage until they exit out of its area. Damage can be mitigated by healing, but it's best to stay out of the Night's Tide if you're not looking for anything important outside the safe zone.
There is no on-screen timer to tell when the safe zone circle will shrink – only a warning for Nightfarers to gather and approach closer to the boss's circle.
You can tell how smaller the circle will become as time passes. The circle is always at its largest at the beginning of the day and is at its smallest by the time night falls.

Above times are estimates based on our full gameplay recordings. Counting begins on the title card of the 1st day.
Night's Tide is already available at the start of a day at the border of the map. It will begin shrinking from the border to a set circle at around estimated 4 minutes and 30 seconds, then will begin shrinking to the final boss circle at around the 11 minute mark until it completely closes at the boss circle at 14 minutes.
After defeating the Night Boss of the first day, the Night's Tide shrink timer and circle size will reset. Timers are the same for both the 1st and 2nd days, with the 3rd day being exclusive to the Night Lord arena with no more Night's Tide to worry about.

The line 'Rains gather' appears signaling that the circle will begin rapidly shrinking.
A message notification will always prompt when the circle begins shrinking. You will be able to tell that it will be time to fight a boss once the Night Tide's circle shrinks to the exact size of the final circle.

All enemies take no damage from Night's Tide. If you are fighting one that is inside the Night's Tide, it is best to let the enemy come to you instead.
An example situation where enemies can commonly enter and exit the Night's Tide is when fighting a Night Boss that uses a mount; charging attacks can sometimes send them into the Night's Tide. Don't be greedy and instead let them approach, then strike once they are back in the safe zone.
Note that enemies that die while inside the Night's Tide will also drop their items inside it. If you want to get those drops, you'll want to make sure the enemy dies in the safe zone, or you'll have to be quick to get them while they're on the ground inside the Night's Tide.

To be sure that you get out of the way of Night's Tide once it starts shrinking, make sure to plan your route and observe the next circle the Night's Tide will shrink into.
You can also take advantage of Spiritstream or Spectral Hawk points of interest on the map. These will allow you to get across uneven terrain between you and the next circle.
The health loss from Night's Tide is constant tick damage regardless of how far you are from the safe zone, and your surge sprint will always outrun its shrink speed. If you need to get loot, complete objectives, or navigate through rough terrain inside the NIght's Tide, they can be tanked with healing items (often your Flasks).
We recommend that if you're aiming to get loot inside the NIght's Tide, you aim for the locations near the border of the safe zone so that you can make easier exits. Churches with Flask upgrades (if they haven't been taken yet) are one of the safest and easiest places to loot inside the Night's Tide since taking Flask upgrades from them fully restores your flasks.
