Elden Ring Nightrein - How to Play Offline

Offline Solo (Single Player) is available for Elden Ring Nightreign. Learn how to play offline, what to do, and whether you should play offline.

How to Play Offline

Activate Offline Mode

Offline Mode 1
Offline Mode can be enabled anytime by going to the settings and going to the Network options. Look for Launch Settings and switch it to Play Offline.

The player will have to exit the game and load back to the loading screen for full changes to take effect. Note that you can go back to settings to re-enable online play by doing the same steps.

Forced Offline Mode

Join Matchmaking Sessions
Alternatively, the game will be forced to enter offline mode if it is unable to properly reconnect to the matchmaking network after attempting to connect online. This could be due to a multitude of reasons, such as server-side problems or cloud saving issues. The player can go to the main menu to reactivate online mode or continue in Offline Mode.

Offline Mode 2
The player can play Solo Mode while offline and their run progress will still save. This is the best option if your game somehow has persistent issues with connecting to the servers. The game will also be more stable as you are not connected to any network when playing.

Solo play has been optimized since the 1.01.1 Patch applied last June and is now more viable as a play option than before the patch.

Solo Offline Expeditions

Solo Offline allows the player to go through runs and still play the game even with no connection to FromSoft's network. The game will be an entirely different experience from the usual multiplayer experience, however.

Be prepared as being a one-man party poses its own challenges that are either bad or good depending on the person playing.

One of the best things to do offline and solo is to complete any easy and doable Remembrance Objectives. Some objectives only require a player to defeat an easy target while others will only require interacting with people or items in the Roundtable Hold.

Practice at the Sparring Grounds
Should solo play be too daunting of an experience for players, they can instead try out and experiment with gear in the Sparring Grounds inside the Hold. This lets them gain insights or ideas on how weapons, classes and equipment work.

Matchmaking Bugs
If your gameplay sessions get interrupted with bugs or issues that forces you to go offline, you can take the time to figure out what the issue may be before attempting to reconnect. The game can also force offline mode to potentially fix connection issues.

Elden Ring Nightreign Matchmaking
Elden Ring Nightreign features a more unique matchmaking system than other games and is entirely reliant on the user connected to FromSoft's matchmaking network. There are no LAN or virtual connection options available for the game.

Should your network fail to connect properly, the game will go into Offline Mode and matchmaking with other people will be impossible until you reconnect again.

No Sync or Cloud Saves

Updating Save Data
The player must be in Online Mode to be able to sync or access the most recent cloud save of the game. This puts your save file at risk of getting corrupted or overwritten if the player does not go online to sync up for too long.
