Defeat Enemies to Earn Runes and Level Up
At the start of the Tutorial, your character will be at Level 5. Defeat enemies along the way to collect at least 21,818 Runes, then go to a Site of Grace at the top of the ruin just before the boss area to level up to Level 6. The increased stats will help in your fight against the Fell Omen.
Use Katar and Lordsworn's Straight Sword
You can collect a variety of weapons during the Tutorial, but we recommend having the Cold Katar and Lordsworn's Fire Straight Sword. You can dual-wield both weapons to deal heavy damage. The Katar is found inside a chest just outside the fort. while the Lordsworn’s Sword is in the study room inside the fort.
Avoid Opening AoE Attack with Dodge
As you enter the boss arena, the Fell Omen will immediately perform an area of effect (AoE) attack at you. This will be telegraphed by a yellow glow on the ground. Dodge away as soon as you see the yellow glow to avoid damage.
Use Ultimate Art for Heavy Damage
The Wylder's Ultimate Art, Onslaught Stake, deals massive damage and can stagger the the boss. Make sure to follow up with a heavy attack when the Fell Omen is staggered to inflict critical damage. If the Ultimate Art isn’t charged, you can run around for a while until it is.
Don’t Revive Your Partner
During the boss fight, you will have an AI-controlled partner that will help you against the Fell Omen. Use them as a distraction to land hits from behind. If your partner is knocked down, don’t attempt to revive them, as it takes two Near-Death gauges to revive them. It’s safer to focus on defeating the boss instead.

Defeating the Fell Omen during the Tutorial rewards you with the Fell Omen Fetish Relic. Equipping the Relic grants Improved Throwing Knife Damage, Vigor +1, and Switching Weapons Boosts Attack Power effect. It’s a solid enough early-game Relic that can help in your first few Expeditions.
Since the Fell Omen Fetish is blue, it can only be equipped by the Wylder and Recluse until you unlock more relic rites later on.
Can You Replay the Tutorial Boss Fight?
Replay the Tutorial in the Visual Codex
To replay the Fell Omen boss fight, you’ll need to replay the entire Tutorial. To do this, head to the Visual Codex, located southwest of Expeditions in the Roundtable Hold (or fast travel there using the Map). Select the Guide and press the Square button (PlayStation) or X button (Xbox) to replay the Tutorial.
The Fell Omen Appears in Expeditions
The Fell Omen can reappear as a Night Boss during Expeditions. His moveset is mostly the same but features more AoE attacks.
