How to Level Up Fast

Max Level and Achievement

The Max is Level 15

Level 15 is the maximum level Nightfarers can achieve during a run. Stats for Level 15 can be observed by heading to the Sparring Area from the Roundtable Hold and checking Level under Sparring Settings.

If you reach Level 15 during your run, it is best to use your Runes to purchase other items for utility purposes or to further boos you and your team's combat effectiveness.

Clear Points of Interests Quickly

Point of Interest Map

To get to the max level in an expedition, raiding and clearing POIs (Points of Interests) quickly are essential. POIs offer chunks of Rune sources in the form of mobs and potential bosses.

Of the several POIs, our recommended best route for Rune Farming is by tackling the Great Church, Forts, and Encampments early in the expedition, then Evergaols and Castles at the center later on.

Some examples of desirable POIs are found in the table below.

Icon Brief Explanation
FortsForts Checking the map inside the fort reveals buried treasure nearby and scarabs.
Great ChurchGreat Church Obtain the Holy Seal in Great Churches. Mobs and bosses may also be found here.
Main EncampmentMain Encampment Multiple bosses and enemies for Runes and loot.
RuinsRuins Lots of items are found in the basement of the Ruins.
Mine EntranceMine Entrance Obtain Smithing Stones for upgrading your equipment.
CastleCastle The castle houses bosses inside and underground.
Field BossField Boss Bosses wandering the overworld. Make sure to level up enough and prepare as these Field Bosses are powerful.
EvergaolEvergaol A boss will appear by using a Stonesword Key to break the seal.

Plan Your Route with Map Pins

Map Pins

Time is of the esssence – the Night's Tide begins shrinking the safe zone at around the 4m 30s and 11m mark of the expedition on each day, so a planned route is the best way for your team to focus on levelling together.

Communicate desired POIs with your team and use the Map Pins function to visualize where you want the team to go. You and your team can place pins across the map to create a helpful layout of 'waypoints' for navigation.

How to Add Pins on the Map

Defeat POI or Field Bosses

Elden Ring Nightreign - Roaming Boss

Some strong Field Bosses can be found roaming out in the open, such as those with a red boss icon.

Bosses are great Rune sources for gaining levels and reaching the max level. They may also sometimes offer large amounts of extra Runes as part of the Dormant Power reward pool after their defeat.

Bosses are often found in POIs, such as Camps or Evergaols (if activated with a Stonesword Key). Field Bosses are also found in the world and are marked with wolf-like icons on the map, with stronger ones having a red border around the icon.

The above is a list of some bosses that are the hardest to defeat or are the most time-consuming, with the rating at 3★ being the hardest with 1★ average to difficulty. If you are not confident about defeating them yet, it is best to avoid them until you are ready.

2★ and 3★ bosses are best fought on the 2nd Day with a high enough level (preferrably Level 7+). They will feel extremely spongy if fought under levelled. 1★ bosses are still doable on the first day if you have good equipment and experience.

Use Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot

Items that Increases Runes
title IconGold-Pickled Fowl Foot

One way to get to the max level is by maximizing uses of the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot. This boosts the Rune reward that a player receives for a certain amount of time.

This may be used before raiding a POI or defeating a boss to maximize Rune acquisition, and is commonly found by breaking crates and opening chests out in an expedition.

How to Get Runes

Use Increased Rune Acquisition Relics

Relics Increasing Rune Gain
Relics with Rune Boosts
Some Relics can come randomly with the "Increased Rune acquisition" passive.

Relics that boost Rune acquisition can be rewarded from doing expeditions and can be stacked on other rune-boosting effects to get to the max level. Better versions of relics can be rewared from defeating bosses.

To ensure you have a Rune-boosting relic equipped, check the Relic Rites table at the Roundtable Hold, or check the second page of your Status menu for the list of equipped relics.

List of Relics

Use Rune-Boosting Trees

Rune-Boosting Trees can be spotted through their yellowish glow.

Rune-Boosting Trees can sometimes be found in the open in Limveld. When approached and interacted with, they will temporarily increase the Runes you gain for a set time.

It is best to use these trees when you plan to eliminate mobs and bosses since they will only be active for a time.

Obtain and Equip Gold Scarab

Talisman Effects
Gold ScarabGold Scarab More Runes From Defeated Enemies (+15%)

The Gold Scarab talisman is the best relic you can use for gaining enough runes to level up quickly and reach the max level. It is obtained randomly from the whole loot pool of talisman drops.

The most consistent ways to get Talismans are through the following:

  • Defeating Scarabs across the map. Scarabs become much easier to find with their positions revealed on the map once you have interacted with the map table clue in the towers of Fort POIs.
  • Guaranteed reward from an orb inside a Castle POI, in the upper room unlocked by defeating the boss in the Castle's basement.
  • Bought from the Wandering Merchant in a Village POI.

Clear Sentient Pest Raid Event

Sentient Pest Raid Event
Sentient Pest Moth
Description Reward
Target: Sentient Pest (Gnoster) (Moth only)
Environmental lighting will slightly darken accompanied by a purplish hue. Locust explosions will trigger near the player, stealing their runes and possibly reducing their level.
Find and defeat the Sentient Pest by looking for locusts and a blue glow (checking the sky for locust flight directions can help).
Elden Ring Nightrein - NightIntegration of Intelligence
Attacking enemies can sometimes grant you a great amount of runes.

The Integration of Intelligence power gained from defeating the Sentient Pest moth in a Raid Event will give you a chance to obtain extra runes when attacking enemies. This stacks with other rune-boosting effects and is one of the best ways to easily get to max level. This effect will persist for the entire duration of the expedition.

Note that Raid Events are random occurrences, so if you do run into the Sentient Pest Raid Event, it's best to clear it as soon as you can!

Raid Events Guide

How to Beat Sentient Pest Raid Event

Look to the sky and follow the direction of where the locusts are going.

To locate the Sentient Pest moth in the Raid Event, check the direction of the locusts in the air. Follow them, and then you should eventually spot a blue, glowing orb. Approach the orb to reveal the Sentient Pest moth.

Get Avarice Talisman from Libra

Symbol of Avarice

Dialogue Choice Result
Take runes. Grants Nightfarers the Symbol of Avarice Talisman, which lets them gain more runes but lose HP.

There is a chance that the Demon Merchant appearing in an expedition can offer the Symbol of Avarice as one of its deals. Taking this deal will provide you with this talisman which provides both 20% increased runes from defeated enemies and 60% improved item discovery at the cost -10 continuous HP loss.

Taking this talisman with you is a good choice though it is rarer than the Gold Scarab. If you also have the Gold Scarab, its effect will stack. You can minimize the HP loss from this item by dropping it and leaving it on the ground first, then equipping it right before the enemy is about to be defeated.

How to Find Libra (Demon Merchant)

Merchant Location Merchant Appearance

Libra can spawn anywhere in Limveld as part of a Raid Event to curse you of your HP. When he does, check your map for an area with a red circle, then head over to that spot to find the Demon Merchant (Scale-Bearing Merchant).

Split Up Upon Reaching a High Level

While it is advised to stay together at first, splitting up during the later stages of a run and tackling easier POIs simultaneously is one option for increasing Rune gains. Covering more ground can lead to faster Rune acquisition since the reward is shared among the team.

Choose to do this only if you and your fellow Nightfarers are in an agreement, since splitting off the group may considerably bring more challenges: members from afar will be harder to revive and those unable to defeat bosses in time due to lack of damage may need to withdraw immediately to evade the Night's Tide.

Farm Outside After Day 2 Night Boss

Night's Tide Note Spending 1 minute and 40 seconds in the Night's Tide will accelerate HP loss. Returning to the safe zone resets the timer.

One strategy that you can try that is best when done solo and in a private group, is to spend time defeating enemies outside and near the safe zone and in the Night's Tide after defeating the 2nd Day Night Boss. Do not interact immediately with the Spirit Shelter portal in this case. Do this at your own risk and with your team's consent.

It's best to target enemies near the safe zone and near a Site of Grace. All Sites of Grace are revealed on the map at the end of the 2nd Day boss, and will still fully restore HP, FP, and cure status ailments whenever approached.

Note that Evergaols are locked at this point. What you can do is unlock Evergaols near the safe zone in advance, then defeat them later as part of your farming route.

Where to Level Up

Spend Runes in a Site of Grace

level up screen
The main way to level up your character is by approaching a Site of Grace and interacting with it. Once done, you'll need to spend the required Runes to level up your character.

Sites of Grace are Shown on the Map

Site of Grace Locations

Sites of Grace are immediately revealed on the map and can be checked at any time. This makes it easy to head to the nearest Site of Grace if you have enough Runes to level up your character.

An additional method to find a Site of Grace is to defeat a boss either in the open world or inside a dungeon. Activating these sites will also make these potential respawn points, as well as safe spots for recovery.

Only Automatic Leveling is Available

While leveling your character, you'll be able to see the stats of your current Nightfarer but there will be no manual options to level individual stats. Only a predetermined auto-level-up feature is available, which will raise the preferred stats of your current Nightfarer.

Benefits of Leveling Up

Increases Your Nightfarer's Stats

Leveling up increases your Nightfarer's stats, giving them more HP, FP, stamina, and making them more effective with their skills and attacks. Note that Nightfarers have different preferred stats unique to their character.

Automatic Stat Distribution Upon Leveling Up

Leveling up in Elden Ring Nightreign is very straightforward. It is as simple as a button press and your stats will increase accordingly without the need to level up each stat manually.

Note that stat distributions, while automatically distributed at every level, will vary according to the attribute scaling of your characters. For example, the Guardian will have more HP than Ironeye at Level 15 due to having an S scaling in HP.

Dying During the Day Decreases Your Level

Level Loss on Death

Dying during the day will decrease your level by 1, which can slow down your progress. This can be prevented if your team finds a way to revive you!

If you do end up dying, you will want to recover the Runes you dropped at the lost spot of your death.

Death Penalty: What Happens When You Die?

Runes Obtained Are Shared Among the Team

No matter the distance, if a player is rewarded by defeating an enemy, the rewarded Runes will be shared equally among the team.

Since Rune acquisition is not affected by distance, you can use this to your advantage if your team is planning to split up in simultaneously clearing multiple POIs.
