How to Use Lance

Scales with Strength and Dexterity

The Lance has a C scaling in both Strength and Dexterity at +25 with the Standard affinity. It is a recommended weapon for Quality builds looking for a weapon with a good reach capable of piercing attacks.

If you want go either more Strength focused or more Dexterity focused, you can change the affinity of the weapon to Heavy or Keen and equip either the Starscourge Heirloom talisman (+5 to Strength) or the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom talisman (+5 to Dexterity) to further increase the damage output.

Whetblades Locations

Highest Damaging Great Spear

The Lance has the highest physical damage value out of all the Great Spears in the game. It excels in mounted combat and benefits from the effects of the Lance Talisman which enhances attacks on horseback. Due to its size, it is ineffective in tight hallways or cramped rooms, and switching to a smaller offhand weapon is more practical in those situations.

Pairing this weapon with a Medium Shield or Greatshield is ideal for Guard Counters. The Spear Talisman is recommended as it enhances counterattacks unique to thrusting weapons. If you are looking to use this weapon more offensively, Ashes of War such as Impaling Thrust, Repeating Thrust, or Piercing Fang are recommended for dealing high damage even against shielded enemies.

Infusable with Ashes of War

The Lance can be infused with Ashes of War and is equipped with the Charge Forth skill by default. This skill performs a charge forward ending in a powerful thrust attack. Holding the button will allow you to travel a much greater distance. The thrust attack will send enemies flying backward, downing them which leaves them open for a wake up attack. Additionally this can break an enemy's guard if they are low on Stamina when the attack connects.
