Despite being in the same genre, Wuthering Waves still have differences from Genshin Impact. Check out all differences and similarities between the two games in this guide, as well as a comparison of game terms!
List of Contents
The main difference between Wuthering Waves' and Genshin Impact's combat is the ability of the characters to counter enemy attacks.
Successful counterattacks in the game stop the attack, stun the enemy briefly, and may even provide additional effects.
Some tougher enemies in Wuthering Waves have an additional gauge functioning similar to a "stagger bar" below their health bar that also decreases as they take hits.
Once it's depleted, the enemy will be in a Paralyzed state and be immobilized, allowing your character to freely attack it with their skills or unleash a Finishing Attack for massive damage.
Attacking and using skills in Wuthering Waves generate Resonance Energy for the Resonator gauge. When this gauge reaches full, the icons of allies other than the active character will glow, allowing the use of an Outro Skill.
The character switching out will use their Outro Skill—dealing damage, providing buffs, or healing—while the next character performs an Intro Skill. Unlike Outro Skills, Intro Skills don't require a full Resonator gauge.
In Wuthering Waves, defeating enemies in the wild sometimes allows you to capture their Echoes. Monsters have different usable abilities, and you can use their Echoes to assist you in combat or exploration.
List of All Echoes and Sonata Effects
Compared to Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves is a lot faster when it comes to maneuvering around the map. One immediate change that can be noticed is that running does not consume stamina, at least outside of combat.
Yet another major difference is that the characters can run up the walls instead of climbing them.
There is also the unique grappling hook mechanic that lets players swing in mid-air, allowing players to reach up to higher locations easier.
Players can also do a double jump, as well as an air dodge mechanic by consuming some stamina. This benefits for both combat and exploration purposes.
Both Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves have an expansive world that players can explore at their leisure. Treasure chests, items and enemies can be found all throughout the map.
Making travel easy for both games is the gliding mechanic, where players can glide through the air from a high location.
Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact both focus on real-time action combat, with the former requiring a more reactive playstyle with the Counterattack and Extreme Evasion mechanics.
