How to Use Pike

Scales with Strength and Dexterity

The Pike has a C scaling in Strength and D scaling in Dex at +25 with the Standard affinity. Depending on your stats, you can get the most out of this weapon's scaling by applying either the Quality affinity or surprisingly the Keen affinity. Quality has a B scaling in both Strength and Dex but with lower base damage, whereas Keen gives a B in Dex at +25 and and an E in Strength with higher base damage. Note that the Heavy affinity gives the same base damage as Keen, but only offers a B in Strength and removes Dex scaling completely.

Equipping the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom talisman that raises your Dex by +5 and the Starscourge Heirloom which raises Strength by +5 can also help take advantage of scaling to improve your damage. Make sure you equip the best affinity to your weapon by using a Whetblade at the blacksmith or a site of grace.

Spear with the Longest Reach

The Pike is an ideal weapon to use for dealing damage from a safe distance. It has the longest reach out of all the melee armaments making it very effective while on horseback especially if you equip the Lance Talisman which increases the damage of your attacks while on Torrent. The Rotten Winged Sword Insignia can be equipped to enhance the damage dealt by your successive attacks.

The normal attacks of this weapon are the default thrusting attacks for spears while the strong attack performs a unique upward thrust. Since this weapon has excellent range, Ashes of War such as Impaling Thrust, Repeating Thrust, or Piercing Fang are recommended for dealing high damage even against shielded enemies.

Infusable with Ashes of War

Since the Pike upgrades via normal smithing stones, you can swap out its Ash of War at the Blacksmith or at sites of grace. By default it is equipped with Charge Forth which performs a charge forward ending in a powerful thrust attack. Holding the button will allow you to travel a much greater distance. The thrust attack will send enemies flying backward, downing them which leaves them open for a wake up attack. Additionally this can break an enemy's guard if they are low on Stamina when the attack connects.
