How to Beat Gigantoad

Gigantoad Boss Fight Tips

Use Dodge to Avoid Capture and Flatten

The Gigantoad can use an ability called Flatten, allowing it to belly flop from a distance and deal damage upon impact. Additionally, it can also cast Capture, using its tongue to pull a party member closer before following up with a bite attack. Make sure to lock onto the Gigantoad and observe its movements to evade these attacks effectively.

How to Lock On to Enemies

Attack the Tongue Whenever Its Exposed

During the fight, the Gigantoad will sometimes expose its tongue when it gets exhausted. Attacking its tongue while it is exposed will apply pressure to the Gigantoad. Focus on attacking its tongue and use powerful attacks to build up the stagger meter quickly during the fight.

Focus on Dodging to Tire the Gigantoad

After the Gigantoad has attacked several times, it will become tired and sit due to exhaustion, even without being staggered. Use this to your advantage and focusing on defending and dodging its attacks. Wait for the Gigantoad to sit and use that window before going all out to begin building up the stagger meter.

How to Dodge - Battle System Explained

Attack the Tongue While It's Sitting

While the Gigantoad is sitting, its tongue will be exposed, providing a short window to attack it with powerful spells and abilities. Targeting the Gigantoad's tongue will pressure it, allowing you to build up the stagger meter. Take this chance to cast Blizzaga using a ★3 Ice Materia for massive damage and stagger buildup.

Use Banishment for Burst Damage

Cast Banishment whenever it reaches Level 3 and the boss is staggered. Do this by continuously spamming Ice elemental abilities and spells like Blizzaga with ★3 Ice Materia. This will raise the level of your Banishment allowing you to deal massive damage. Make sure that you still have the Doppelganger to get the second cast for free and change your affinity to Ice using Ice Ninjutsu.

Change Affinity Using Ice Ninjutsu

While playing as Yuffie, change your affinity to any element using the Elemental Ninjutsu ability. This allows Yuffie to change the element of her attacks to match the weakness of the enemy and buildup the stagger meter quickly.

Apply Poison for Additional Damage

You can also apply Poison using a Poison Materia on the Gigantoad for additional damage over time (DOT). This can help you deal some chip damage while you wait for the Gigantoad to become tired. Once you have applied Poison, focus solely on dodging its attacks to improve survivability.
