Shortbow Location

Elden Ring - Coastal Cave Nomadic Merchant Map

The Shortbow can be obtained from the Nomadic Merchant in Limgrave West, just outside Coastal Cave. It costs 600 runes. It is also a starting weapon for the Bandit Class.

This weapon also has a chance to drop from bow-type Marionette Soldiers.

How to Use the Shortbow

Scales with Strength and Dexterity

The Shortbow scales equally with a D scaling in both Strength and Dexterity at +25 with the Standard affinity. Equipping the Starscourge Heirloom or Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom will further increase your damage output as they raise Strength and Dex by +5, respectively. You can also equip the Arrow's Sting Talisman which raises the damage of arrows.

Good Early Game Light Bow

The Shortbow is a good early game bow that gives melee builds a ranged option. It requires low stat requirements to wield, deals decent damage, and can help draw aggro one at a time. However, it is outclassed by the other bows in the category, so it's best to save upgrade materials for a bow with better stats later on.

The Shortbow can be purchased from Nomadic Merchant just outside the Coastal Cave. It is also one of the starting weapons of the Bandit Class, giving you a ranged option from the very start of the game.

Infusable with Ashes of War

This weapon is infusable with Ashes of War and is equipped with the Barrage weapon skill by default. This skill allows the user to continuously fire a barrage of arrows at a rapid pace.

Using this skill with different types of arrows is very effective at inflicting enemies with status ailments while rapidly dealing damage. Equipping the talismans Viridian Amber Medallion and Cerulean Amber Medallion will increase your max FP and Stamina allowing you to use the skill much longer as long as you have enough arrows to spare.
