Endings Guide | How to Get the Secret Ending

It has been confirmed that Shin Megami Tensei V (SMT 5) has multiple routes and endings! Read on to know all the details whether how many endings there are in the game, possible routes in the game, and the different effects of each ending!

There are 4 endings in Shin Megami Tensei V and each unlocks its own set of Demons for fusion and their own type of Miracle for purchase. You'll have to clear the first three endings if you're aiming for a 100% compendium registration rate.

The hidden route "Create a world for humanity alone" is a branch from the "Destroy the throne" ending. If you met the pre-requisites for the secret ending and decided to destroy the throne, new events and options will be available at the Empyrean.

Fusions and Miracles Common to All Endings

Unlockable Demons
・Lady Nuwa - Lvl 80 ・Herald Abdiel - Lvl 80 ・Fallen Abdiel - Lvl 89 ・Lady Nuwa - Lvl 89 (Transformed Nuwa)
Unlockable Miracles
・Divine Persuasion - When talking with Demons, occasionally they will join your party for free. ・Divine Eminence - You can talk to and recruit demons of a higher level than you.

These are the 4 demons that will become available for fusion upon clearing any of the endings and the two Miracles available when the clear data is loaded for new game plus.

Both Miracles are under the Supremacy section and can be purchased for 10 Glory each.

Effects of Choices on the Endings

Story Choices Should Match Your Decision

Your choices throughout the game will also affect what you get after making the decision at the top of the Temple of Eternity. Your final alignment will depend on what choice you picked the most in the past choice events.

"I will uphold God's order."	Select the first response on each choice event
"I will recreate the world and save Tokyo."	Select the second response on each choice event

If you picked the first response on most of the choice events and decide to "uphold God's order", you'll have the correct alignment for the ending. The same goes with the second response and deciding to "recreate the world".

Although you can still select either choices regardless of your responses during the past choice events, there will be minor drawbacks if you get a mismatched alignment.

Consequences for a Mismatched Alignment

Tao won't give you an exclusive Miracle

Choice	Miracle / Effect
"I will uphold God's order."	Rank Violation Level limitation for demon fusion is lifted.
"I will recreate the world and save Tokyo."	Inheritance Violation A demon's starting skills can be overwritten during skill inheritance.

If your decision matches with your alignment, Tao will give you an exclusive Miracle upon entering the Empyrean. If it doesn't, the dialogue with Tao will not be triggered and you won't obtain the violation Miracle.

These Miracles are found under the Doctrine section and can be purchased for 10 Glory reach.

A subquest NPC will charge you Macca

Another consequence for a mismatched alignment is that Melchizedek (for Michael's quest) or Nebiros (for Belial's quest) will charge you 660,000 Macca before you can start their respective subquests.

These subquest NPCs will only appear at the Empyrean after completing The Holy Ring subquest.

Uphold God's Order

Dazai Ichirou and Abdiel's Route

This is the ending where you side with Dazai Ichirou and Abdiel in which the resulting world will be governed by God's order, as it always has been before.

Tokyo is recreated in the state it was before the events of the game and life returns to normal.

Obtain the Rank Violation Miracle

If you choose this ending, you will unlock Rank Violation, a Miracle that removes the level limit for Demon fusion, enabling you to fuse demons and obtain demons of a higher level than you.

Unlock Maria for Fusion

If you complete Maria's subquest and get this ending, you will be able to obtain Maria through demon fusion.

Maria can be found in the Empyrean, the game's final area, but the subquest can only be triggered after achieving a 75% compendium registration rate and receiving the Seed of Life from Sophia.

Unlock Michael for Fusion

If you complete Michael's subquest that can be unlocked by deciding to uphold God's order, you will be able to obtain Michael through demon fusion.

You can start Michael's subquest by speaking to Melchizedek in the Empyrean after completing The Holy Ring.

The Seraph's Return Sidequest Walkthrough and Guide

Recreate the World and Save Tokyo

Atsuta Yuzuru and Koshimizu Hayao's Route

This is the ending where you side with Atsuta Yuzuru and Koshimizu Hayao in which the resulting world will be governed by multiple gods, not just a singular God.

However, conflict and fighting does not end due to disagreements from all sides.

Obtain the Inheritance Violation Miracle

If you choose this ending, you will unlock Inheritance Violation, which allows you to overwrite a demon's initial skill when inheriting.

Hayataro Joins Your Party

Hayataro joins your party in this route and will also become available for demon fusion.

He will be at Lvl 40 when he is summoned.

Unlock Inanna for Fusion

If you complete Maria's subquest and get this ending, you will be able to obtain Inanna through demon fusion.

Maria can be found in the Empyrean, the game's final area, but the subquest can only be triggered after achieving a 75% compendium registration rate and receiving the Seed of Life from Sophia.

The Wrathful Queen Sidequest Walkthrough and Guide

Unlock Belial for Fusion

If you complete Belial's subquest that can be unlocked by deciding to recreate the world, you will be able to obtain Belial through demon fusion.

You can start Belial's subquest by speaking to Nebiros in the Empyrean after completing The Holy Ring.

The Red Dragon's Invitation Sidequest Walkthrough and Guide

Destroy the Throne

Yakumo Shohei and Nuwa's Route

This is the ending where you side with Yakumo Shohei and Nuwa in which you destroy the throne and deny the world a ruler, leaving everyone to fend for themselves.

What the future holds is uncertain in this ending, but now everyone is free to choose their own path.

Unlock Danu for Fusion

If you complete Maria's subquest and get this ending, you will be able to obtain Danu through demon fusion.

Maria can be found in the Empyrean, the game's final area, but the subquest can only be triggered after achieving a 75% compendium registration rate and receiving the Seed of Life from Sophia.

She is the only unlockable demon ally in this ending.

The Noble Queen Sidequest Walkthrough and Guide

Create a World for Humanity Alone (Hidden Route)

Branching from "Destroy the Throne" Route

This secret ending is actually a branch from the Destruction of the Throne ending.

You will know that this ending is unlockable if Nuwa appears in the cutscene immediately after defeating Abdiel.

Complete Specific Subquests to Obtain This Ending

Complete the following subquests first before choosing to Destroy the Throne to unlock the secret ending.

Otherwise, the choice to "Create a world for humanity alone" will not show up and you will be locked to the Destruction of the Throne ending.

•　A Universe in Peril	You need to be at least level 80 to access this subquest.

Subquest Status is Carried Over to NG+

Starting a New Game Plus will carry over the subquest completion status from your previous playthrough. This means that if you've completed some of the required subquests in a previous playthrough and finished the rest in NG+, you'll be able to unlock the secret ending.

Precautions for the Endings

Save After Fighting Metatron

If you open the door immediately after fighting Metatron at the top of the Temple of Eternity, you will be forced to choose an ending and be locked out of all the others.

Be sure to save your game at the nearby leyline fount before approaching the door in case you get a mismatched alignment (and miss the exclusive Miracle from Tao) or accidentally picked an ending you don't want.

Multiple Playthroughs Needed for 100% Completion

You'll have to get through each of the first three endings to obtain their respective unlockables. This means that if you're aiming for a 100% game completion, you'll have to get through all four endings, which will require you to go through New Game Plus at least three times.

Since a lot of content is reset in NG+, including quest progress and the number of Miman found, we recommend getting the three normal endings first before doing a 100% run and unlocking the secret ending.
