Black Frost and Dionysus are two recruitable rival demons in Shin Megami Tensei V (SMT 5). Read on to know which demon is best to side with and the advantages you get for choosing which demon you chose as an ally.
List of Contents
You'll encounter these two opposing quests as you begin your main quest through Chiyoda. Both demons will ask you to eliminate the other.
Black Frost wishes to create a high-end bar in Ginza but Dionysus is standing in his way. On the other hand, Dionysus wishes to distribute alcohol freely to everyone, and he says that Black Frost is trying to take it by force.
The demon you choose to ally with will become a party member, while the other won't. It is worth nothing that both of them are fusable in the World of Shadows.
Talking to Black Frost northwest of the Ginza Leyline Fount will begin the Black Frost Strikes Back sidequest. Black Frost is a chaotic demon who believes in taking things from others to get what he wants. He tells you to take down Dionysus so he can set up his high-end bar and make lots of money.
Black Frost has powerful skills like Ice Dracostrike +3 and Black Dracostrike +4 which are good Strength-based elemental attacks, plus Mabufula and the ability to learn Endure.
Black Frost reflects Dark, blocks Ice, and resists Fire, but is weak to Light. He has higher Strength, Vitality, and Magic stats compared to Dionysus.
Black Frost will be extremely helpful in the upcoming boss fights with Shohei Yakumo, Surt, and Ishtar.
Black Frost Strikes Back Sidequest Walkthrough and Guide
Talking to Dionysus right beside the Sukiyabashi Leyline Fount will begin the A Sobering Standoff sidequest. Dionysus recognizes that you are from Bethel and asks for your assistance, as Black Frost is trying to steal the alcohol that Dionysus is giving out freely to everyone.
Dionysus has well-balanced stats and can cast a powerful Agilao +2. He can also learn several useful Physical skills that can do critical damage. His most useful skill is Sexy Dance +3 which can charm a whole party of enemies. Dionysus blocks Fire, resists Electric, and is weak to Ice.
Dionysus won't be of any use in the upcoming boss fights, but he can make regular battles and taking down Abscesses much easier with his Sexy Dance skill.
