Checkmark Interrupt His Synergy Abilities

Evade Reno's Counterattacks

Whenever Reno counterattacks you, dodge his attack to pressure him. Make sure that you also save your ATB Charges so that you can follow up with Focused attacks right after.

Use Your Strongest Abilities

Save your strongest abilities to counterattack Reno and hit Rude while he's guarding to pressure them. Make sure that you're using high-damage attacks, like Cloud's Braver or Barret's Point Blank because they won't get pressured otherwise.

If you're trying to pressure Rude while he's guarding, you'll need to use 2 abilities in a row. Save up 2 ATB Charges so that you can use Cloud or Tifa to break his defenses and pressure him.

Interrupt Their Synergy Attacks

You should also save your abilities for when Reno and Rude pair up to use a Synergy Attack. This way you can interrupt their attack and pressure them both.

Tifa will be the main damage dealer for this fight since she can deal a lot of single-target damage and can quickly dodge Reno's counterattack.

Since she's the character you'll control, make sure she has the Skill Master and ATB Assist Materias equipped so that you can fill the other party members' ATB Gauges without you having to control them.

Remember that you should also use Limit Siphon when you can since Tifa will automatically have her Level 3 Limit Break available thanks to the Enhanced Expeditionary Medal.

Cloud will mostly be used to pressure Reno and Rude with Braver, as well as staggering them with Focused Thrusts. If he has 2 ATB Charges when they're staggered, he can also follow up with an Infinity's End for massive damage.

Outside of that, Cloud should focus on removing Reno's EM Mines with Triple Slash. Plus, he can also build up ATB Charges on Rude with his ranged attacks, and he won't have to worry about his melee attacks.

Also, once you've staggered either Reno or Rude, save up 2 ATB Charges so that you can summon Gilgamesh to help make this fight easier.

Barret is a great support for this fight since he can heal the party without having to worry as much about MP thanks to the Trade-Off Weapon Skill. He's also a great tank since he can cast Lifesaver, allowing him to use Chakra on himself instead of Magnified-Curagas.

If you want to prioritize healing the entire party instead of just Barret, you can replace Chakra with Prayer so that you can heal everyone without having to use MP.

Also, you can replace Barret's accessory with a Gotterdammerung if you have it available. This allows Tifa to instantly use Limit Siphon and get off a Meteor Strike as soon as the fight starts.

How to Beat Reno and Rude

Rude (Chapter 13) Boss Fight Tips

Focus on Defeating Reno First

You'll want to prioritize beating Reno first since he has less HP than Rude, and he can be deadly if left alone. Beat him first to make the boss fight a little bit easier for your team.

Remember to dodge his counterattacks so that he gets pressured and you can deal massive damage to him once he's staggered.

Attack Rude to Build ATB Charges

If you need to generate ATB Charges, attack Rude since Reno will dodge your attacks. Once your ATB Gauge is full, you can swap your focus back to Reno so that you can dodge his counterattacks and pressure him.

Use Triple Slash on Reno's EM Mines

Whenever Reno sends out his EM Mines, use Cloud's Triple Slash to destroy them. This move will also hit Reno and Rude after it destroys the mines, and it could potentially pressure them when combined with Barret or Tifa's abilities.

Use Limit Breaks to Interrupt Them

Save your Limit Breaks to interrupt Reno and Rude's attacks in case you don't have ATB Charges to use your strongest abilities. Your characters will also be immune to taking damage, potentially saving their lives.
