The Serpent Flail is obtained from a treasure chest in Fog Rift Fort. To get to Fog Rift Fort, walk a bit to the west of the Scadu Altus, West Site of Grace towards a pile of rocks then check the cliff edge for platforms you can drop to. Drop down until you reach the fort.

Once you are at the ladder near the Stake of Marika, climb down and drop to the camp below to the east (you can land on the tent). The chest will be nearby.

Only Available in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

The Serpent Flail is only available if you've purchased the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This weapon is a DLC exclusive and will not be available if you only own the base game.

Description
A flail with coiled snakes for bludgeoning heads. Fire roars within the snakes' bodies, inflicting horrible burns. Some of Messmer's army used these flails to burn hornsent — to brand them with agony and fear.

Serpent Flail requires one Somber Smithing Stone for every level to upgrade until +9. The final level at +10 requires a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.

Cannot Be Infused with Ashes of War

The Serpent Flail cannot be infused with a different Ash of War since it is considered a unique weapon. Weapons that are upgraded using Somber Smithing Stones are classified as unique weapons.
