How to Use Serpent-Hunter

Scales with Strength and Dexterity

The Serpent-Hunter has an A scaling in Strength and an E in Dexterity at +10. It is a good weapon for dealing both piercing and slashing attacks from a distance. If you want to get the most out of the A Strength scaling, equip the Starscourge Heirloom talisman that will raise your Strength attribute by +5.

Best Weapon to Use Against Rykard

The Serpent-Hunter works similarly to the Storm Ruler from Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 3, both weapons do not have any stat requirement and are have massive range and boosted damage when used against their respective main bosses. The true power of the Serpent-Hunter can be seen on full display when fighting against the great serpent Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy.

The extended range and damage boost exclusive to Rykard's boss fight are very helpful since the ground beneath Rykard is constantly covered in lava, making it impossible to get close to him without taking damage. Additionally in phase two of the fight, you can repeatedly use the charged L2 attack to stunlock Rykard to death, given the proper timing.

Weapon Skill Deals High Physical Damage

This weapon cannot be infused with Ashes of War and is equipped with the Great-Serpent Hunt weapon skill. This skill allows the user to perform a powerful lunging thrust that can be followed up with an upward thrust.

The skill takes a very long time to cast and will leave you open to attack during this long animation. It is a strong skill against Rykard and using a Spirit Ash summon to pull aggro is an effective strategy allowing you to land multiple hits while the Rykard's attention is divided.
