Avowed - Best Fighter Build
This is a guide to the best Fighter build in Avowed. Read on to learn the best stats, skills and abilities, weapons, and armor to get in order to create a powerful Fighter build.

Best Fighter Build

Stat Priority for Fighter Builds

Might = Resolve > Dexterity > Constitution > Perception > Intellect

Might and Resolve > Dexterity > Constitution > Perception > Intellect

For Fighter builds in Avowed, prioritize Might and Resolve. Might boosts weapon damage, while Resolve provides stamina, fueling consistent damage output. Dexterity is crucial for attack speed, significantly increasing DPS, even with slow weapons like Great Hammers.

Constitution is important for survivability, but prioritize it over Dexterity only if you're dying frequently. The Toughness Fighter ability has better bang for buck in increasing HP than just pumping points into Constitution.

Perception increases Critical Hit Chance, resulting in significant damage spikes. When paired with Critical Hit-boosting abilities, it becomes even more valuable as the game progresses. Lastly, since we focus on melee attack damage, Intellect is less important. If other stats are capped, a few Intellect points can provide extra Essence and elemental resistance.

Focus On Passives Until Level 15

Charge and the Barbaric Shout taunt are our main active abiltities early on, highly useful in the opening engagements of fights.

The rest of the passives picked here greatly boost what we need to make a strong frontline fighter, focusing on learning how to Parry, boosting HP and recovery, increasing stamina, and raw damage.

Strong Abilities Past Level 15

By Level 15, your Fighter should have a solid foundation. Beyond this point, you'll gain powerful passives that further enhance your strength, or add utility, including:

  • Scavenger Scavenger - useful to have for any build, allowing you to craft and upgrade more.
  • Critical Strike Critical Strike - massive critical hit chance increase, equivalent to multiple Perception points.
  • Retribution Retribution - since you'll be taking damage frequently, this ability dishes it back to the enemy.
  • Armored Grace Armored Grace - to increase effective Stamina even more, add more points and max out by the end.
  • Unbreakable Unbreakable - makes you even more tanky if using a Shield. Must have for shield users late.
  • Stunning Blows Stunning Blows - is essential if you plan to use Great Hammers, as it makes their slower swings worthwile.

By Level 20, you gain access to two powerful Active Abilities to round out your Fighter:

  • Flurry of Blows Flurry of Blows - turns you into a killing machine for 10 seconds with its attack boosts—activate it and go wild.
  • Clear Out Clear Out - gives you a good area-of-effect attack, as you do not have much crowd control as a whole. Use when surrounded for satisfying knockdowns.

A Two-Handed weapon offers a more aggressive playstyle, prioritizing swinging more often and shrugging off damage while still parrying occasionally, using Great Swords, Great Axes, and Great Hammers.

On the other hand, a One-Handed weapon with a Shield emphasizes blocking more frequently while still delivering high DPS. Swords and Axes are the best options for DPS, but Maces can be great for stun build-up focus.

Find the Philosopher's Riddle for a Powerful Great Sword Early

For Two Handed Weapon types, Great Swords generally outperform the other options, as they offer the highest DPS and easiest handling. You can get the Philosopher's Riddle, a powerful Unique variant that you can find very early on.

Alternatively, you can also grab the Seven Strivings for an early Unique upgrade, if you want to try a solid Great Axe as well.

Grab the Last Light of Day Sword for Tanking

One Handed Last Light of Day

Swords are your best bet for One Handing overall, similar to its Great Sword equivalent. The Last Light of Day is the most powerful Unique sword you can get early, restoring health for each kill and dealing fire damage.

If you want to try a Unique Axe that has frost damage instead, find the Drawn in Winter Axe that you can also get early on.

Use the Unflinching Duty Shield Early

Throughout the game, certain shields excel in both defense and utility. The Unflinching Duty can be acquired very early, and its huge +20 Stamina boost is quite helpful, especially in the beginning.

Best Armor for Fighters

Heavy Armor is the clear choice for frontline fighters, with good Unique pieces with Enchantments that complement this build's playstyle. Here are good ones you can get early on:

  1. Wayfarer's Armor (Early Game Best) - can be obtained early on in Northern Paradis, although it costs 5000 coin.
  2. Steel Garrote Plate - Can be found by Paradis early, and is a great alternative if you do not want to spend the coin.
  3. Plate Armor - Non-unique Plate Armor can be found easily, so use it if you have not gathered Uniques yet.
