Speak to Captain Ngunu

Avowed - Captain Ngunu

To start the quest, speak to Captain Ngunu at The Dead Swordfish, located southwest of Thirdborn. He will ask you to find and recruit his old crewmates—Tauwe, Kowha, and Ruanga—so they can reunite for one last drink.

You can recruit the three crew members in any order, but it's best to start with Tauwe for smoother progression. Save Ruanga for last, as you can make a decision with her later in the quest.

Recruit Tauwe

Head east of Thirdborn and travel through the Great Sand Sea until you reach the Sand Sea Oasis. You'll find Tauwe standing by his camp. Talk to him and he will agree to reunite with Ngunu.

Recruit Kowha

# Step-by-step Walkthrough
1
Travel far north to the Ruined Village, located just beyond Shark’s Teeth. Beware of enemies patrolling the area!
2
Enter the archway and jump across the ledges to reach the Ruined Village.
3
Talk to Kowha and he will ask you to kill the Dreamthralls in the settlement.
4
Drop down and kill the enemies in the area. More enemies await on the higher ground, so use the scaffolding to climb up and clear them out as well.
5
Once the Dreamthralls are defeated, cross the bridge on the right side and return to Kowha. He will reveal that Ngunu once wanted them dead, but despite this, he will agree to attend the reunion to confront him.

Recruit Ruanga in the Abandoned Mine

# Step-by-step Walkthrough
1
From the Thirdborn Party Camp, head northwest and you'll see a slope along the cliffside leading to a small opening in the rock.
2
Enter the opening to reach the Abandoned Mine. Clear out the enemies in the area before continuing.
3
Climb the ladder on the scaffolding, then jump across and break the wooden boards. Vault over the ledges until you reach the top.
4
Head inside the cave and speak with Ruanga. She will refuse to join the reunion, as she believes that Ngunu is planning to kill them.

She even hints that he may be plotting their demise at his Lighthouse in Thirdborn. No matter what you say, Ruanga will not accept your invitation.

However, you can recruit Ruanga by completing the optional objective below.

Optional: Search Captain Ngunu's Lighthouse

# Step-by-step Walkthrough
1
If you want to verify Ruanga's claims, head to the Fleetmaster's Perch in Thirdborn and climb the Lighthouse.
2
At the top, use 3 Lockpicks to open the Lockbox and obtain Ngunu's Vial of Poison. Read Perilous Plants and Where to Pick Them beside it as well to confirm that Ngunu is planning to kill his old crewmates.

3
Return to Ruanga and share your findings. You can then suggest turning the tables on Ngunu by poisoning him instead. She will agree and decide to attend the reunion afterward.

Return to Captain Ngunu

Avowed - Return to Captain Ngunu

If you only recruited Tauwe and Kowha and didn't investigate the Lighthouse, return to The Dead Swordfish, where Cinzia will stop you briefly and ask you to bring the drinks upstairs. Head up and speak to Ngunu. During the cutscene, Kowha dies after drinking. Ngunu will thank you for your help, and the quest will be complete.

Turn the Tables After Uncovering Captain Ngunu's Plan

If you uncovered Ngunu’s plan in the Lighthouse and convinced Ruanga to attend, return to The Dead Swordfish, take the drinks upstairs, and speak to Ngunu. You can then choose to either switch the cups to poison Ngunu and Tauwe or give Kowha and Ruanga the poisoned rum.
