Best Ranger Build

Stat Priority for Ranger Builds

Might = Perception > Resolve > Dexterity = Intellect = Constitution

Might = Perception > Resolve > Dexterity = Intellect = Constitution

For Ranger builds, you want to maximize as much Might and Perception as possible to up your damage, as the Ranger is a damage-focused build that emphasizes raw critical hits.

Is it Okay to Have 0 Constitution as a Ranger?

While it is generally recommended to invest as little into possible as Consitution to give you more damage later on, this comes at the significant downside of having less room for error during combat.

However, this is easily mitigated by proper positioning in combat, items, buffs, and companions, making Constitution not as big of a priority.

Best Abilities for Rangers

Focus on Building Up Damage Passives The Whole Game

As you play through the game, you will want to increase your damaging passives with Bows, One-Handed weapons, and Critical hits at every chance you get.

Look out for these abilities across the Warrior and Ranger skill trees and max them out if possible:

  1. Steady Aim (Level 1): Holding your Power Attack with a bow or gun slows time by 25%.
  2. Marksmanship (Level 5): Increases damage with bows and guns by 25%.
  3. Devastating Criticals (Level 5): Critical Hits with melee weapons deal 30% more damage.
  4. Critical Strike (Level 15): Increases your Critical Hit Chance by 10%.
  5. Staggering Shot (Level 20): Power Attacks with bows and guns deal +40% stun.

Pick Up Bear Ally at Level 15

One of the major milestones in a Ranger's arsenal is the Bear Ally summon at Level 15, which allows you to summon a fairly beefy unit that can take aggro away from you and allow you to safely hit enemies.

Once you unlock this off the Ranger skill tree at Level 15, be sure to upgrade this ability to make it more effective in future encounters.

Note: Before the final quest, respec your ability points so you can replace Scavenger with another point in Critical Strike. You will not need Scavenger anymore, and the extra Critical Hit Chance will help.

Best Weapons for Rangers

Main Hand Off-Hand
Loadout 1 Bow
Loadout 2 Axe or Sword or Spear Pistol

Click on a link above to see recommendations!

Your two loadouts will mainly be composed of an Axe, a Sword, or a Spear for close combat encounters, a Pistol on the off-hand for emergency burst damage, and a Bow on the other loadout as your primary damage tool when you are not within melee range.

Bow Progression

Since the Bow is your primary combat tool, it is important that you go through substantial upgrade milestones for your Bow so that you are well-equipped for most of the game's combat at each phase.

1 Dawnshore
(Early Game)
Start off with any Common Bow then reach Paradis to acquire The Long Touch. This will be your main weapon for most of the game and you can explore the eastern side of Dawnshore using this.
2 Emerald Stair
(Early Game)
Upgrade The Long Touch to Exceptional quality and continue using this weapon until you make it to Shatterscarp, or keep it on Fine quality and rely on your melee weapons for the meantime.
3 Shatterscarp
(Mid-Game)
You have the option of trading The Long Touch for Storm-Sworn once you reach Shatterscarp. While this is generally an upgrade, you do need to re-invest into the weapon and upgrade it to Superb.
4 Galawain's Tusks
(Endgame)
At Galawain's Tusks, you'll want to upgrade Storm-Sworn to at least Legendary +0. This'll help you complete all side content in the region.
5 The Garden
(Point of No Return)
Before or while inside the Garden, you can acquire Ancient Alacrity as the last Bow in your arsenal and level it all the way to Legendary +3.

Use Axes, Swords, or Spears For Melee Weapons

For one-handed weapons, you can choose between Axes, Swords, or even Spears. Maces are off the table since they cost too much stamina to swing, and two-handed weapons will slow you down too much. Some good ones to get are:

1 Dawnshore

Last Light of Day IconLast Light of Day Drawn in Winter IconDrawn in Winter
2 Emerald Stair

4 Galawain's Tusks

Use Pistols As An Off-Hand

Using Pistols on your off-hand slot can be a great way to capitalize on the Ranger abilities that you have chosen as it gains the same effects as the bow but gives you the agency of having a melee weapon on the other hand.

Some good pistols to get at each stage of the game are:

1 Dawnshore
(Early Game)
Caeroc’s Pride IconCaeroc’s Pride
2 Shatterscarp
(Mid-Game)
Fair Play IconFair Play
3 Galawain's Tusks

Best Armor for Rangers

As a Ranger, most of the armor pieces and equipment you get will be based around light or medium armor that gives helpful bonuses to you in combat.

These are either buffs to your Dexterity, damage, critical damage or hit chance, or all of the above.

2 Dawnshore

4 Galawain's Tusks

5 The Garden

Wildwalker Armor Wildwalker Armor

During early game, you will be looking for armor that helps boost your stats or provides helpful utility passives as a Ranger, as you will still be in the process of acquiring stat-boosting buffs, equipment, and accessories.

Later on as you attain more raw stats, you can move towards slotting in for extra elemental damage as you will have leveled abilities and the proper accessories by then.

Best Clothing for Rangers

Boots Gloves

You'll want an even spread of stats as you progress through the game, and the best way to do that is to equip gear that grant attribute bonuses. Ideally, you will want to get an even mix between Dexterity and Perception from your clothing as that will give you more damage in the long run.

Use Boots with Dexterity, Dodge Distance, or Attribute Bonuses

For early game, you can focus on getting Dodge Distance boots, and continue to find items related to dodge distance, dexterity, and perception during late game.

Use Gloves that Boost Attributes, Raise Essence, or Buff Damage

For gloves, you'll want the ones that can either boost your attributes or buff damage. Here are some you can get from early to late-game:

Blackwing Gloves IconBlackwing Gloves Gloves of the Strangler IconGloves of the Strangler

Best Accessories for Rangers

Rings Amulets and Trinkets

For amulets, trinkets, and rings, you'll want ones that boost your attributes in one way or another. Rings are a bit more flexible since they have a bunch of general damage buffs, but amulets and trinkets will need to have attribute bonuses since they get the bigger bonuses in late game.

Use Rings that Boost Attributes or Ranger-Related Stats

The earliest helpful piece of equipment you can get is Delver's Caution, thish can be replaced later on with more damaging rings like the Ring of Pain Amplification or Ring of the Peerless Marksman.

  1. Delver's Caution: +1 Dexterity,+15% Parkour Speed.
  2. Ring of Pain Amplification: +15% Critical Damage.
  3. Ring of the Peerless Marksman: +10% damage with ranged weapons.
  4. Vindictive Band: Critical Hits deal Poison Damage.
  5. Ring of Prosperity's Fortune: Critical Hit Chance increases with your total wealth.

Stick to Attribute-Boosting Amulets or Trinkets Only

Focus on attribute-increasing amulets or trinkets as that allows you more freedom with your choice of ring above and helps provide raw damage for your character.

  1. Tranton Family Talisman: +2 Perception.
  2. Scout's Reach: +3 Perception.
  3. Cartographer's Amulet: +1 Dexterity, +2 Perception.
  4. Thirdborn Tira Nui Badge: +2 Might (If needed)

Could you update build? With new patch there are some additional points at lvl 5, 10 etc.

Apologies for the oversight. We've updated the build to allocate 3 points to Marksmanship and 2 points of Steady Aim instead. Thank you for your feedback!
