Avowed will only let you play between one of the two playable races in the game. Learn about all playable races in the game, as well as the reason why there's only two playable races in the game.
All Playable Races in Avowed
Can Only Play as a Human or Elf
The player is a godlike which is a race blessed by the gods before birth. Although, you can still pick between being a human or an elf as your underlying race in the character creator.
Reason for Only Two Playable Races
Player is from the Aedyr Empire
Story wise, the developers have confirmed that the reason you can only choose between making your race a Human or an Elf on character creation is because of your character's origin.
Your character is a representative from the Aedyr Empire, which are predominantly made up of humans and elves in the setting of the game.
Chose Humans and Elves for Easier Development
In Avowed, you can choose to play in first-person mode. With this in mind, it would be more difficult to program multiple races due to their height difference and it will definitely have an impact in gameplay during first-person mode.
The developers just focused on choosing humans and elves as a result due to their heights being similar.
