You cannot dig up treasure in Avowed. Read on to learn why you can't dig up treasure and how to find treasure that seems to buried underground.

If you hear the incessant twinkling of treasure nearby and you find yourself staring into a wall or at the ground, then the answer to your question is no, you cannot dig up treasure.
Most treasure in Avowed will be hidden in hard-to-reach places, often contained within chests, lockboxes, backpacks, or corpses - none of which are underground. To get to them, you'll have to explore the area thoroughly.

One of the most misleading cases of buried treasure is from the Treasure Map called Captain Henqua's Spoils. In the map picture, it looks like the treasure is buried on a patch of ground. However, it is in fact a few paces to the left and underwater.

If you already have Marius with you, then you can use his companion ability, Hunter's Sense, to detect nearby treasure through walls. This should help you determine if there is treasure as well as how exactly to find it as you explore possible entrances in the area.
