Heart of Valor is a side quest from the Shatterscarp region in Avowed. Read on for a Heart of Valor walkthrough and learn its location, how to unlock it, and the rewards for completing this quest.

Chiko asked you to meet their elderly uncle, Keipo, a Shatterscarp legend who slew a fearsome leviathan. Chiko believes Keipo has been feeling his age. Talking to a fellow adventurer could be just the thing he needs. |
Heart of Valor can be unlocked in the Shatterscarp region by talking to Chiko in the Residential District at Thirdborn.
You can also unlock the quest by talking to Keipo nearby. However, talking to Keipo without talking to Chiko will prevent you from obtaining most of the rewards for this quest.

Upon arriving in Thirdborn, you'll encounter Chiko in the Residential District. Talk to them about Keipo who was a Shatterscarp legend. Chiko will ask you to talk to Keipo as a fellow adventurer and the story behind slaying the leviathan.
After talking to Chiko, use the stairs on the left and head to Keipo’s House. Talk to Keipo, hear him out about the heart of the Leviathan, and he will ask you to retrieve it from the Sand Sea Ruins.

1 | ![]() Travel to the Sand Sea Ruins and interact with the front door. It is locked from inside, so you’ll need to find another way inside the ruins. Head to the left side of the ruins then use the stairs outside and jump on the wooden planks to reach the top of the ruins. |
2 | ![]() After reaching the top of the ruins, jump down towards the green light and enter the Sand Sea Ruins entrance gate located at the bottom. Upon entering, you need to head down and pull the lever to use the elevator going down. |
3 | ![]() Once you are at the bottom, explore the area and find the switch that requires magic ability to turn on. You will need to defeat the enemies as they will be attacking you after activating the switch that makes a way to cross into the other area. After defeating the enemies, use the hanging wooden platforms to jump across the next area of the ruins. |
4 | ![]() Another set of enemies will appear, so be sure to eliminate them all so you can explore the ruins and locate the quest item. You have to use the lever to open the gates leading to the Heart of Leviathan after defeating the enemies once more as you approach the metal gate. . |

Tell Keipo about your adventure as you went inside the Sand Sea Ruins and your discoveries while you were there. You have the option to give the heart or to not give the heart because of his plans.

Should You Give Keipo the Heart of the Leviathan?
If you decide to give the Heart of the Leviathan, Keipo will be giving you the Umpara's Spear. After your conversation, you'll talk to Chiko and he will be displeased with your decision to give the heart.
After you have decided not to give the heart, Keipo will be angry with you as his plans are ruined. The quest item will be in your inventory, but you still need to choose to give it to Chiko or keep it.
Once you head outside of Keipo's house, you'll be talking to Chiko and Tira Nui Hajime about the heart of Leviathan and the reason why he wanted to have it.

After choosing to give the heart to Tira Nui Hajime, he will thank you for giving it to him. Hajime will keep it safe as the heart of the Leviathan may have some use to him.
If you decide to keep the Heart of the Leviathan, they will trust you to keep it safe. They will also thank you for helping them stop Keipo's plans.
If you inform them of Keipo's condition and continue the dialogue, do not choose the Happy to Help
option, as the quest will end without gaining the Stormdancer equipment from Chiko.
After acquiring the Weathered Journal inside the ruins, you can choose to expose him or keep his secret about Umpara. If you choose to expose the secret, you will need to hand over the Weathered Journal to Tira Nui Hajime.
Once you complete Heart of Valor, Chiko will reward you for not giving the heart to Keipo and for telling him about the Dreamscourge with Stormdancer's Scale, Stormdancer Glove, Stormdancer Boots, and Stormdancer Ring which will be added to the Inventory.
If you choose to give the heart to Keipo, he will reward you with Umpara’s Spear in exchange for the Heart of Leviathan.
If you refuse to give it to both Keipo and Chiko, the Heart of the Leviathan will be added into your Inventory, and you can use it as a trinket. The Heart of the Leviathan grants you additional attack damage percentage while slowly draining your health.

If you haven't picked up the heart or you have a save just befor thay, you can run back to town and talk to chiko, and then return to the dungeon, chiko will then appear at the exit to the dungeon. The trigger seems to be talking to chiko before picking up the heart.
