How to Unlock Steel Resolve
Steel Resolve can be unlocked in the Emerald Stair region by talking to Ranger Captain Acierno in Ranger Headquarters or can be unlocked by freeing Ranger Verano during The Trantons bounty.

Missable During Ancient Soil
Steel Resolve automatically fails after you finish the Naku Tedek section during the Ancient Soil main quest.
It is ideal to complete this quest first before tackling Ancient Soil.

Talk to Ranger Captain Acierno
Head to the Ranger Headquarters and speak with Ranger Captain Acierno. She will ask you to find the traitor within their group as well as locating the other Rangers. Gather information by speaking to the Ranger Casagrada and Ranger Dorso.
Speak with Ranger Casagrada
Go to the Fior mes Iverno Docks and speak with Ranger Casagrada. Confront him about the situation at the Abandoned Homestead with Ranger Verano.
If you haven't completed The Trantons bounty, you will be prompted to Investigate the Abandoned Homestead which is the location where you need to kill the Tranton Brothers.
Speak with Ranger Dorso
Travel to the Fior Southern Gate Beacon and talk to Ranger Dorso. Gather information on Ranger Monato, she will tell you to look at the Ogre’s Cave to find him there.
Investigate the Ogre's Cave
When you arrive at the Ogre's Cave in the Grim Wetlands, you must first take on the Ulrask before exploring the surrounding area.
Look around for any information about Ranger Monato, then investigate the corpse to obtain his journal.
Search for a Root-Strangled Tree and Search for Evidence
Head to the west of Fior and look for the Root-Strangled Tree near Lake Lacuna in The Wildwoods. Look around the tree to find any evidence that can solve the mystery among the Rangers.
Meet the Ranger at the Designated Location
Go to the meet-up location and you'll find Ranger Dorso. Hear her reasons out why she betrayed her companions and ask information about the location of the Steel Garrote. You can choose to attack her, help out with her plans, or to let go of her.

Attack Ranger Dorso
Choosing to attack will start a battle against Ranger Dorso, and defeating her grants you an Exceptional Dagger that can be looted from her corpse.
Help Ranger Dorso
If you choose to help Ranger Dorso, your companions will be against this idea, which implies that you made a wrong choice. Helping Ranger Dorso may affect the outcome of the main story.
Let Ranger Dorso Go
Letting Ranger Dorso go to the wilderness as she becomes an exile will make her furious, and she will run away and be gone from your sight.
Optional: Confront the Steel Garrote
Investigate the area where you dealt with Ranger Dorso before returning to the Ranger Headquarters. Go to the waterfall cave and head inside the Maxim's Claim then speak with the Steel Garrote Veteran.
Prepare to battle them as defeating the Steel Garrote will prevent a tragedy from happening during the Ancient Soil main quest. It is recommended that you deal with them as soon as possible, even before completing this current side quest. You can also obtain the Death Knight Armor from their camp.
Return to Ranger Captain Acierno
Report back to Ranger Captain Acierno about the news with the Rangers' location and who the traitor was.

Accuse Ranger Dorso
After you've dealt with Ranger Dorso, tell Ranger Captain Acierno about her betrayal and how you handled it. She will recall Ranger Dorso's loyalty and refuse to believe what caused her to betray their group.
Lie: Accuse Ranger Casagrada
If you decide to lie to Ranger Captain Acierno, you will claim that the innocent Ranger Casagrada was the traitor the entire time. Your companions will express their disappointment for telling such lies. Captain Acierno will be grateful for your help in resolving the mystery within their group.
Lie: There was no murder
Return to the Ranger Headquarters and inform Ranger Captain Acierno that no murders occurred between the Rangers. Massoni would find it unbelievable, and he is still convincing Captain Acierno that the killer is still out there. Captain Acierno will still thank you for helping her solve this mystery among the Rangers.
Steel Resolve Rewards
One Last Trick
Once you complete Steel Resolve, Ranger Captain Acierno will reward you for helping the Rangers with the One Last Trick, which will be added to the Inventory.
Exceptional Dagger for Defeating Ranger Dorso
You can obtain the Exceptional Dagger if you decide to attack Ranger Dorso. You can only get this by looting her corpse after the battle.
