Avowed - Weapon Quality Explained
Weapons in Avowed increase in quality as you progress through the various regions. Learn more about Weapon quality and progression with this guide!

What is Weapon Quality?

Tier Indicator That Determines Weapon Stats

Avowed has five Quality Tiers: Common, Fine, Exceptional, Superb, and Legendary. It is important to note that only Unique Weapons can be upgraded to Legendary.

Higher Quality weapons have higher base stats, which affects your overall damage and effectiveness in combat.

Upgrade Weapons as You Change Regions

As you progress through the game, you will unlock 4 regions or open zones, starting from Dawnshore. Enemies in each zone after Dawnshore will have increased quality gear, pushing you to also get higher quality weapons.

Region Quality Progression
Dawnshore
(Early Game)
Common - Fine
Emerald Stair
(Early Game)
Fine - Exceptional
Shatterscarp
(Mid Game)
Exceptional - Superb
Galawain's Tusks
(Late Game)
Superb - Legendary

Weapon Quality also affects how much damage you can do to enemies in later regions because the damage you can do depends on the quality of your weapon relative to your enemy's gear.

How to Get Higher Quality Unique Weapons

Unique Weapon Quality Depends on Your Equipped Items

The quality of the Unique Weapons you find in the overworld depends on the quality of your equipped gear. For example, if your highest-quality weapon is Exceptional, Unique weapons you find later on will also be Exceptional.

With Unique weapons you buy from merchants, the quality is based on your equipped items' quality at the time of the interaction. Weapon upgrades after that will not affect the merchant's stock.

For example, if you interact with a merchant selling an Exceptional weapon, getting a Superb weapon will not make the merchant's weapon Superb.

How to Upgrade Weapon Quality

Upgrade Weapons by Using the Workbench

Avowed Workbench
Go to a Party Camp and interact with the Workbench, which would open the Upgrades tab. You can see your inventory and all the weapons you can upgrade from the Upgrades tab.

The Workbench is automatically unlocked upon visiting a Party Camp for the first time.

How to Upgrade Weapons and Armor

Adra is Required to Upgrade Unique Weapons

Crafting Adra

Aside from regular Upgrade Materials like Paradisan Ladders and Iron Chunks, Unique Weapons also need Adra to upgrade its quality. These can be found in the overworld or crafted in the Workbench.
