In Avowed, players can customize their character’s appearance, race, and background to suit their preferences. Learn more about Avowed's character creation options, what you can customize, and stat bonuses available based on your selections.

Avowed Character Creation Options

Select Between Five Unique Races
In the Body Type tab, you can choose from five unique races: Human, Elf, Aumaua, Dwarf, and Orlan, each available with either a feminine or masculine body type.
Every race offers different bonus Attributes that can help define your build. Additionally, each race has a distinct height, offering a slightly different perspective in first-person mode.

As of Patch 2.0, released on February 17, 2026, each Race now grants bonus Attribute points, including the original Human and Elf, as well as the three now playable races: Aumaua, Dwarf, and Orlan.

|---|---|
| Facial Features | Split between masculine and feminine. Adjust your head parts like mouth, brows, ears, eyes, etc. You can also have add-ons like scars. |
| Body Types | Select a masculine or feminine body type among five unique races, each race featuring unique stat bonuses and height variations. |
| Skin Tone | You can adjust the skin tone of your character to match your preference. |
| Hair | You can choose between different types of hairstyles and also what facial hair you want for your character. |
| Godlike Features | Godlike features include unique facial features, hair, glowing eyes, and ears to distinguish the main character from mortals. More customization options have been added for Patch 2.0. |
Change Your Voice and Pronouns
You can select between different masculine and feminine voices and the pronouns for your character. In this menu, you can also toggle if your Godlike features are seen in-game, although they will still be pointed out in NPC dialogue.
Character Backgrounds
Pick Between Five Backgrounds
To finish your Envoy, select between five backgrounds. This determines a bit of the character's backstory, and offers occasional unique dialogue choices with NPCs in-game.
More importantly, each background has an additional +2 to an Attribute that can help improve your planned build and playstyle, along with a different starting weapon.
