Before leaving Strangleroot in Message from Afar, you will have the opportunity to examine the Adra Pillar and talk to the Voice. You will have the choice of helping it or not through a dialogue interaction.
Trusting the Voice and choosing to help them will get you the Dream Touch ability, which is one of the best abilities in the game, as it can heal and revive fallen companions in combat. It can also deal damage against Delemgan, Dreamthralls, and Vessels.
You will be given the option to either trust or reject the Voice several times throughout the game. Generally, it is best to trust the Voice, and it can lead to a good ending.
