Armor Fit for the Wilds can be unlocked in the Dawnshore region after completing the On Strange Shores main quest.

To begin the quest, head to the Watermill in Ivona’s Threshold, located just north of Claviger’s Landing. As you approach, Kai will mention about upgrading your armor.
The quest may also activate as you explore Dawnshore and collect upgrade materials.
Enter the Watermill and eliminate the Xaurips inside. Their corpses will likely contain the materials needed for the upgrade, so be sure to loot them.
If you're missing Paradisian Ladders, they can be found and looted around Dawnshore's Overworld. Additionally, Paradisian Ladders can also be bought from Merchants and broke down from equipment.
While Pelts can be obtained from animals, the easiest way to get Pelts is to purchase them from Merchants.
Once you’ve gathered all the necessary materials, set up camp at any Adra Waystone and interact with your Workbench. Select the Armor you wish to upgrade—ideally, your best one—to complete the quest!
Completing the quest will leave you with an upgraded Armor that can aid you in your battles. Other than that, you can obtain various common weapons and items, along with XP as you progress through the quest.
