Head north of the Farmer's Market in Emerald Stair and then speak to Dolina to start this quest.
She will ask you to investigate the xaurips as they are causing trouble in their farm by destroying their animantic farming equipment.
Travel to the Grim Wetlands and head straight to the Fortified Xaurip Camp. Upon reaching the camp, the xaurips will be acting weird. Continue going to the cave up on the cliff to investigate.
Go inside the camp and speak with Amadio, the Hermit, regarding the xaurips attacking the farmers. He explains that they destroy the farmer's animancers' equipment as they are a threat to nature and may be causing the Dreamscourge.
You must then make a choice to either agree with Amadio or fight him.
Choices | |
---|---|
Agree with Amadio | Attack Amadio |
If you want to agree with Amadio, select the dialogue option “You’re just trying to protect the land. I support that.”
Choosing to agree with Amadio allows you to complete the quest without much hassle. However, the farmers will not be so grateful.
You will have to go back to Dolina and Masco Laima near the Farmer’s Market and ask them to call off the rangers. Regardless of the dialogue options you choose, they will not reward you for this quest.
Choosing to attack will start a battle against Amadio the hermit and all the xaurips in the room. This choice will also make all the xaurips in the camp—yes, all those you passed by on the way here—to become hostile.
Although this choice makes things more difficult for you, it is also more rewarding. Defeating the Hermit grants 124 XP, and you can loot the Wolf Boots clothing from his corpse.
If you initially agreed with Amadio but want to change your choice, talk to Amadio again before talking to the farmers and select “I decided I’m not going to call off the rangers for you.” This will start the battle with Amadio and his xaurips.
Paths | |
---|---|
Report to the Hermit | Report to the Farmers |
Depending on the choice you made, you will have to either report to the hermit Amadio or report back to the farmers who gave you the quest in order to complete Nature vs. Nurture and get your reward.
If you chose to agree with Amadio and asked the farmers to call off the rangers, go back to the Fortified Xaurip Camp. Amadio will be waiting for you at the center of the camp with his xaurip entourage instead of inside the cave.
Talk to him to complete the quest and get your reward.
If you choose to fight Amadio and his xaurips, travel back to the farmers once Amadio has been defeated. Talk to Dolina, and tell her that you have dealt with the xaurips. This completes this side quest, and she will give you your reward.
If you choose to fight the hermit Amadio to complete Nature vs. Nurture, Dolina will reward you for dealing with the xaurips with the Ring of Pain Amplification, an accessory that lets you deal additional critical damage. You will also get 254 XP for completing this quest.
You can get the Wolf Boots from Amadio whether you choose to side with him or not.
If you attack and defeat him, you can loot the Wolf Boots from his corpse. If you decide to side with him and ask the farmers to call off the rangers, he will give you the Wolf Boots as your reward, in addition to 254 XP.
