Upon waking up on an unknown island, you will immediately encounter your fellow shipwreck survivor, Garryck. Talk to him to start your adventure.
Pick up the weapon behind him and equip it, following the button prompts from the tutorial section on the upper right corner of the screen. The weapon that appears here will vary depending on your background.

# | Step-by-step Walkthrough |
---|---|
1 | ![]() Proceed forward until you reach wooden boards blocking your path. Perform a Basic Attack to break through the obstruction. Breakable Objects like these are marked with a Sword icon, so keep an eye out for them. As you progress, make sure to pick up any useful items scattered throughout the environment. |
2 | ![]() Continue moving ahead and navigate the obstacles by following the on-screen prompts in the tutorial. This section introduces you to the game's movement mechanics, so pay close attention. |
3 | ![]() Keep going until you enter a tunnel leading to a cliff. Jump down and prepare to fight Xaurips. Follow the tutorial instructions to learn basic combat. As a member of your party, Garryck will also help you fight enemies. |
4 | ![]() After defeating the Xaurips, continue forward while watching out for trip wires that trigger arrow traps. You can disable these traps by interacting with the end of the wire. |
5 | ![]() Climb the ladder near the waterfalls to enter the Outpost. |
6 | ![]() Jump down the ledge and head to a hall with a large green Adra stone. |
* | ![]() Loot the corpse near the doorway to the next room to obtain the Fort Northreach Storage Key and a Common Round Shield. Use the key to unlock the storage room near the ledge where you previously descended. Inside, you’ll find a Common Breastplate from a chest. This, along with the shield, will provide additional protection in battle. |
* | ![]() On the right side, above a corpse, you'll find a switch that opens a hidden door leading to what appears to be a torture room. Beware, as a Dreamthrall Swarmer will jump at you as soon as you enter. You can loot a chest to obtain Vambraces. |
Exit the building through the right side and eliminate the Xaurips in the open area. During this encounter, the game will teach you about Power Attacks and other advanced combat mechanics.
Once the area is clear, enter the big door and turn right to reach a jail. Inside, you'll find Ilora, a smuggler who owns a boat that can help you escape the island. You can choose to free her or leave her behind.
Choices | |
---|---|
Free Ilora | Leave Ilora |
# | Step-by-step Walkthrough |
---|---|
* | ![]() Freeing Ilora will temporarily add her to your party, allowing her to help you out against enemies along the way to her boat. |
1 | ![]() If you decide to free Ilora from her prison, you need to find the key. It can be found in the next room, but the door is locked. Climb up the platforms to find another way inside. |
2 | ![]() Find a hole on the floor blocked by wooden boards. Break the boards with a Basic Attack. |
3 | ![]() Drop down the hole. The Fort Northreach Jail Key can be found hanging to the right of the door. Pick it up, unlock the door, and open Ilora’s cell. |
If you choose to leave Ilora behind, simply ignore her and continue to the next part of the quest.
However, this choice makes the remainder of this quest more difficult, since you won’t have an extra hand to help you out. Ilora will also eventually escape on her own and appear as an enemy later on.
Go up the platforms and loot the Common Bow from the body of a soldier by the tree trunk. Equip the bow and use it to shoot down the Magran’s Fury hanging above the blocked doorway. This will burn down the brambles and open up the way.
# | Step-by-step Walkthrough |
---|---|
1 | ![]() Head outside, where you'll find a broken bridge. On the other side, Xaurip Rangers will be firing arrows at you. With your bow still equipped, this is the perfect opportunity to practice your archery skills. Shoot them down before proceeding. |
2 | ![]() To your right, traverse the platforms and pass through the waterfalls. Keep jumping across until you reach the other side of the broken bridge. |
3 | ![]() In the next area, the game introduces its stealth mechanics. You can use stealth to eliminate the Xaurips quietly, but if you're spotted, prepare to fight your way out. By this point, you should have leveled up, allowing you to choose your first Ability. Pick one that suits your playstyle. |
4 | ![]() Continue uphill until you encounter another bramble blocking your path. Shoot down the Magran’s Fury above to burn the brambles and clear the way. You can also burn them by picking up a nearby Grimoire and using the Fan of Flames spell. |
5 | Move forward and drop down into another area where more Xaurips await. Defeat them to continue. |
6 | ![]() Enter the cave with small Adra stones on the outside, where you will encounter Steadman Ralke. Speak with him to trigger a boss fight. Note that if you decided to leave Ilora in her cell, she will appear alongside the commander in this battle as an enemy. You can pick up her Common Pistol once you defeat her. |
7 | ![]() After defeating Steadman Ralke, exit the cave and head toward the boat to complete your first main quest. |
* | ![]() Just before the exit, you can interact with the nearby Adra to speak with The Voice. |
There are no rewards for completing On Strange Shores. However, you can obtain various common weapons and items, along with XP as you progress through the quest.
