This build is a highly mobile, easy-to-pilot, PvE setup, focusing on dealing continuous AoE damage via Disintegrate and Lightning Nova, while taking advantage of damage boosts to enemies suffering from Loss of Control.
Alternating between Ice Crystal's AoE Chill, Lightning Nova's root, and Ray of Frost's long-range Chill, this build keeps the Loss of Control damage boost up at all times, demolishing most PvE content with ease.
Your legendary gear prioritizes boosting the damage of Disintegrate. Searing Judgement increases AoE damage by allowing Disintegrate to hit multiple opponents, while Chaos Nexus applies DoT damage in the form of Burn. Entropic Edge will be the icing on top, buffing Disintegrate's damage by 10%.
The next priority is getting your mobility skill up. By equipping both Regalia of the Archmage and The Siphon, Lightning Nova becomes a low-cooldown skill which you can spam for boosted movement speed and a nifty AoE root. Without Teleport, this is the next best mobility combo to avoid getting mobbed in PvE.
The Grace of the Flagellant set works to increase your Disintegrate, Ice Crystal, and Ray of Frost damage across the board. With each skill classified as either Channeled, Continuous, or Persistent Ground damage, the 2-set and 4-set bonuses of Grace of the Flagellant function like an extension of the Pain of Subjugation and Fervent Fang legendary gems.
At Hell IV+ at higher Paragon Levels, farm and equip the The Turnkey and The Prisoner from the Feasting Baron's Pack set to lengthen the duration of your abilities that cause Loss of Control. This makes Chill and the Root reaction (via Lightning Nova) last longer.
Aside from the exceptionally strong 5-star gems which grant you secondary and DoT damage opportunities, the core legendary gems for this build for starters are the Trickshot Gem, Pain of Subjugation, and Fervent Fang. Make sure to get them first as they directly affect the damage output of your main skills.
Intelligence | Intelligence is the primary stat for Wizards. Prioritize this when equipping legendary and set armor as it gives the most Damage and Combat Rating returns out of all the stats. |
---|---|
Critical Hit Chance | This build will require you to melt hordes of enemies. More than Crit. Hit Damage, increasing your chance to proc Crits with Disintegrate's multiple hits will take priority. |
Critical Hit Damage | More Crit. Damage is always good. Since you're going through the trouble of increasing your Crit. Hit Chance, make the most of it and increase your damage as well. |
Potency | Potency will affect the extent of your Loss of Control effects. Stack up on this stat if you can so that Chill and Root last longer. |
Vitality | While the Lightning Nova's mobility will offer you a lot of leeway for survival, sometimes you will find yourself mobbed. Outlast your opponent while channeling Disintegrate by increasing your Life via this stat. |
Vanquisher > Treasure Hunter > Soldier |
---|
The priority for this build is to get as much damage as possible. Prioritize Vanquisher over Survivor from Paragons 1 to 50, then invest a few points into Treasure Hunter to at least get the increased Magic Find perk which will help you farm legendaries.
At higher levels, invest in Soldier since Hell 1+ Difficulties will require you to play PvE content groups (except Rifts). This will allow you to do dungeons with Soldier active, while also being able to switch back to Vanquisher for solo rift content and bounties.
With The Siphon equipped, you will get a 60% boost to your movement speed after each cast of Lightning Nova. Use this to get around in Dungeons or Elder Rifts and train kills for massive XP boosts in the process.
Remember, the root granted by the Regalia of the Archmage also functions as Loss of Control. You can use this to root trains of enemies and deal with them with a burst of Disintegrate, or pin down enemies as you move from area to area, looking for elite mobs.
If you're having a hard time finding elite mobs in Elder Rifts, make sure to periodically kill the train of enemies you Root to ensure fast clear times. In Rifts or even Dungeons (like the Pit of Anguish) where normal mobs are particularly dense, turning back and clearing out enemies will help with both survivability and loot/gold farming.
Get the most out of your damage by using Ice Crystal when facing Elite Mobs and particularly large mobs of enemies. Not only does this multiply your main Disintegrate and Ray of Frost beams, it also allows you to cover a larger AoE with outgoing damage. In difficult Dungeons, this combo is particularly useful as it alleviates pressure on CC melees like the Crusader and Monk.
When dealing with enemy trains or packed groups without Ice Crystal, make sure to use Ray of Frost before Disintegrate. This combo Chills enemies, proccing Loss of Control and amping up the damage of your follow-up Disintegrate beam.
When taking on group content, enemies will be tankier. When doing Elder Rift or Dungeon runs in a group, make sure not to stack multiple Loss of Control effects. Instead, alternate between your skills, using Lightning Nova's Root, Ray of Frost's Chill, and Ice Crystal's AoE Chill in sequence as each effect wears off.
The Trickshot Gem paired with buffs to continuous damage will mean that your hardest hitting single-target option would be to use Disintegrate and Ray of Frost over your primary or ultimate attacks. When facing Rift Guardians or Dungeon Bosses, maintain distance from your opponent and keep channeling both beams to melt your target.
