If you are late to the event, you may still be able to participate if the Ancient Nightmare hasn't been defeated yet, so search around the Misty Valley. The boss's path leads past the Altars in the area, so check nearby and keep an eye on your map for the boss icon.

Time | 12:00 PM, 8:30 PM, and 10:00 PM (Server Time) |
The event occurs every Wednesday and Friday at 12:00 PM, 8:30 PM, and 10:00 PM. These are all based on server time so be sure to check your server's time zone or you might miss the event.
In addition, traveling to Mount Zavain during these days will reveal a countdown timer for the Ancient Nightmare event. Once the timer finishes, you can Auto Navigate to the exact event location.
Take note that the countdown timer and the Ancient Nightmare event itself will only appear and trigger after setting the difficulty to Hell I or higher.
Objective | |
---|---|
1 | Set the World Difficulty to Hell |
2 | Defeat Lord Martanos and Collect Zakarum Sigils (Optional) |
3 | Wait at the Misty Valley Waypoint |
4 | Fight the Ancient Nightmare |
Remember that the Ancient Nightmare event is only available in Hell difficulties so if you haven't yet, return to Westmarch, open your map, and change the World Difficulty to at least Hell I.
You can prepare for the Ancient Nightmare by defeating Lord Martanos before the event starts. This does not have to be done on the same day as the Ancient Nightmare event.
Although it's not necessary to beat Lord Martanos to complete the Ancient Nightmare event, he drops Zakarum Sigils, which can be used to power up Altars and momentarily stun the Ancient Nightmare.
Lord Martanos can be spawned every 30 minutes at his gravesite in the Zakarum Graveyard (Mount Zavain).
Simply wait at the Misty Valley Waypoint in Mount Zavain for the Ancient Nightmare event to start.
This waypoint is the closest landmark to the spawn point of the Ancient Nightmare, so it's best to set your skills and party up with other players at this location.
To complete the event, each player will now have to work together to fight and defeat the Ancient Nightmare.
Make use of Altars, Zakarum Sigils, and your entire arsenal of skills to defeat the Ancient Nightmare and complete the event. You do not need to deal a certain amount of damage to earn rewards, as anyone who damages the boss even once can receive them.
Ancient Nightmare Boss Tips | ||
---|---|---|
Deplete the Ancient Nightmare's Shield
Activate Altars to Weaken It
Use Zakarum Sigils to Reset Altars
Defeat the Ancient Nightmare
|
The Ancient Nightmare event begins with players stopping the boss's advance by breaking its massive shield. This shield needs to be depleted before you can deal any damage to the Ancient Nightmare.
As you move along the roads of Mount Zavain, keep attacking the boss to destroy its shields as quickly as possible.
To help you deplete the Ancient Nightmare's shields, activate the Altars along the road in Mount Zavain.
These Altars can stun the Ancient Nightmare and weaken its shield, giving you plenty of time to deal damage to the boss.
Remember to use the Zakarum Sigils you collected from Lord Martanos to boost the damage and reset the timer of the Altars used to weaken the Ancient Nightmare.
Once the Ancient Nightmare's shield is depleted, it will stop its advance and begin attacking players, starting the boss fight proper.
Work together with other players and deal as much damage as you can to defeat the Ancient Nightmare.
The primary rewards for beating the Ancient Nightmare are Enchanted Dust and the Nilfur's Precision Horadric Vessel.
