Howler's Call	Your Primary Attack has a 10% chance to summon a charging spirit wolf that inflicts 150% base damage + 1458 to all enemies in its path. Cannot occur more often than once every 20 seconds. The spirit wolf has a 12% chance to Stun enemies for 3 seconds. Unlocks at Rank 3

Demon Hunters, being ranged damage dealers, can prioritize damage boosts before survivability. Their main source of damage are their Primary Attacks, so slotting Legendary Gems that enhance these attacks will help them keep up in terms of damage, especially in PvE.

Berserker's Eye

Safe to use in PvE since you should always keep your distance from your targets, and you won't feel the increase in the damage you take. However, this is a no-no in PvP as other players can close in real quick and execute their combos.

Ca'arsen's Invigoration

Like what was mentioned above, Attack Speed boosts are great for Demon Hunters, especially while Vengeance is active. This Legendary Gem also grants Primary Attack damage bonus at Rank 3.

Howler's Call

This gem adds on-hit effects to your Primary Attacks. You can use Lightning Core as an early game placeholder, but as soon as you get your hands on a Howler's Call, use it instead as it can deal more damage with the same effect cooldown.

Bloody Reach

A staple gem for Demon Hunters in PvE and PvP as this gem increases their damage depending on the distance between their targets. At Rank 3, this gem also gives your attacks a chance to cripple your opponent's attack and movement speed.

Blood-Soaked Jade

A good replacement for Berserker's Eye in PvP as it doesn't increase the damage you take. Its only drawback is that the damage bonus can drop (down to 4%) along with your HP, while the movement speed bonus remains unaffected.

Fervent Fang

Due to the Demon Hunter's rapid attacks and skills, especially with Vengeance and Rain of Vengeance, they can almost instantly ramp up the damage boost of this gem to its maximum.

Vengeance is the skill that you should always bring whether in PvE or PvP. This skill shreds hordes in dungeons and can hit multiple, distant players in the Battleground. The same goes with Rain of Vengeance against PvE enemies, but will need to be enhanced by Hailstone Shoulders to be effective in PvP.

Lastly, Daring Swing is a skill that Demon Hunters should never be without. It allows them to zoom around the field to get out of sticky situations or to pursue their targets. For PvP builds, you might want to enhance your Daring Swing with Boundless Ingenuity and Chillwrath Mantle.

Strength is the most important stat you should look for as it directly increases the damage of your attacks. Attack Speed and Critical Hit Chance work well together as these increases your chances of doubling your damage. Critical Hit Damage receives lower priority since critical hits always deal at least twice your normal damage, which is a huge boost already.

Other than Strength, the other base attribute you should always look for when choosing a gear is Fortitude, as it provides both offense and defense bonuses.
