This PvE Dungeon build revolves around maximizing the utitlity of a support Wizard, focusing on buffing your party with Ice Armor and using AoE Loss of Control effects to dictate the tempo of a fight. In higher difficulty dungeons, this build shines as it is one of the few that allows you to grind them out while undergeared or underleveled.
Given that the only buff Ice Armor needs is the group effect provided by the Icon of Synchronicity, the rest of the legendary items in this build will focus on boosting your effective damage and Loss of Control effects.
Frostreaver's Garments and Crystal Guards modify your Ice Crystal to have better Chill procs and a lower cooldown. For damage, Searing Judgement and Entropic Edge work to modify Disintegrate, giving it a DoT Burn as well as 10% more damage for easier Dungeon clears.
When starting out (pre-Hell IV difficulty), one of your main goals is to build up your buff potential. Given that your only party buff is Ice Armor, farm and equip a 4-piece Vithu's Urges as it provides longer buff durations and increased attack speed to recepients of the buff. At higher levels, opt for more damage by equipping a 2-piece Grace of the Flagellant.
The key to providing better support buffs is getting Bottled Hope. Since your only group buff will be Ice Armor via Icon of Synchronicity, Bottled Hope will work to add to what you can give, providing affected allies with damage and movement speed bonuses whenever you use Ice Armor.
The other Legendary Gems listed will work towards buffing your skill damage. However, do note that these remaining gems are aimed towards your Continuous and Channelled skills such as Disintegrate and Ray of Frost. Primary attack damage will still be outclassed by your skills in this build.
Intelligence | Intelligence is the primary stat for Wizards. Prioritize this when equipping legendary and set armor as it gives the most Damage and Combat Rating returns out of all the stats. |
---|---|
Potency | Potency will work to increase the effectiveness of your Loss of Control skills and skill damage. Since all of your heavy hitters will be skills, work to increase this stat (especially via Normal Gems) whenever possible. |
Vitality | Given the build's stationary playstyle and lack of mobility skills, more HP will always be better. Armor pieces that increase Vitality as a secondary stat will be best. |
Critical Hit Chance | When considering the magical properties of your items, Critical Hit Chance will always be a good investment. Since most of your damage is Continuous, investing to get multiple crit hits while channelling will be better than any other modifier. |
Critical Hit Damage | If Critical hit Chance modifiers rarely drop for you, the next best thing is to get more Critical Hit Damage. Again, dealing damage will also be a priority for this support build. |
Vanquisher > Treasure Hunter > Soldier |
---|
At lower Paragon levels, Vanquisher will always outclass Survivor as damage from level 60 to Paragon 30 scales well enough that you will not need the skill tree under Survivor. At Paragon 50, invest in Treasure Hunter since the additional magic find will benefit most if not all of your other solo PvE activities outside of Dungeons and Raids.
Once you hit Paragon 150, invest in Soldier unless you have a dedicated party to play with. Remember, Mastermind relies on party diversity for its buffs which is hard to organize when queuing up using the in-game Party Finder. For better overall party buffs at Hell IV, Soldier will be more useful for both situations.
Remember, due to having no mobility skills or easy escapes, this build will heavily rely on playing with your party. Allow the tankier melee users to draw aggro before you decide to start dishing out damage of your own from the back line. At higher difficulties, this playstyle will make more sense as getting mobbed there is a death sentence.
When tackling Area Bosses, make sure to cast Ice Armor for your team as much as you can. With Bottled Hope and Vithu's Urges modifying this buff skill, you'll want as much uptime as possible when facing difficult content. However, once the boss starts using attacks that are much more difficult to dodge, start spacing out your Ice Armor usage to account for these phases.
Alternatively, some dungeons will feature maps that have players getting mobbed if they aren't too careful. Pay attention to your teammates when this happens, casting Ice Armor if one of them starts dipping in health or if you see them about to be cornered.
For normal mobs while going through the Dungeon, use Ice Crystal to inflict an AoE Chill effect before hitting it with Disintegrate to trigger a Refraction reaction. This combo deals massive AoE damage, allowing you to easily clear out rooms provided you have Ice Crystal off cooldown.
When dealing with more enemies than you can effectively fight or if your melee members are getting mobbed, switch out the combo for an Ice Crystal and Ray of Frost Refraction reaction. Not only will this induce a very effective AoE Chill effect, it will also buy your team space to disengage and recover if needed.
